Request for View Mod
#1

I'm wondering if one of you, can make a mod that allows the arrows that you see when your out of the cockpit, they show you which direction enemy and friendly aircraft are, to apear when your in the cockpit. I like the cockpit view much better, but an arrow pointing to an enemy on your six is priceless. I need the intsruments because I use my prop pitch adjustment alot and I need the rpm gauge for reference (and I like the cockpit feel). Also, if you can adjust the distance for them to be the same as the icon distance. I dont like the fact you can see the arrows before the icons are in range. Some of you may say its foolish to lower the distance, but when I play single player I feel like I'm cheating when I can switch the view and find aircraft I didn't know where there. Plz let me know if you think its posible to do. Thz

One word:

Mirror.

I fly all of the Spits with mirrors turned on, and I downloaded a mod from here not that long ago which adds a mirror to the P-51D. I'd suggest looking around to see if there are mirrors for other planes too, as it is an absolutely priceless tool which doesn't sacrifice immersion (which you seem to like to at least some degree). I'm a chronic tunnelvision sufferer and without a TrackIR or second right hand to use my mouse with, I have a lot of trouble spotting and tracking enemy planes; at least with the mirror, I can see the ones in my dead six out to a pretty decent range.

Not sure if you play online or not, but in either case I would suggest simply learning to keep your head on a swivel and check the sky above and behind you every thirty seconds or so. It may seem like a pain but it's a good habit to get into, rather than relying on the game to spot enemy planes for you. I weaned myself off of the icons a while back and now have icons switched off by default. It feels much more rewarding when you can tell the game to stick all its fancy options and still take on anyone, believe me Smile

Of course, it's up to you, but I seriously recommend you get into the habit of manually checking your six.

Its just hard to identify planes at a distance. I endup shooting friendlys alot, how do you get use to that. Mabey my res isnot set as high as yours. Also I'm playing w/ a xbox360 controller. So I got 2 x/y joysticks(pitch/roll and throttle /rudder) and the d-pad works like a hat for the view(plus 10 programable buttons). So I have no problem looking around. It just is easier to have a certian amout of pc help with the battlefield awarness.

IDing enemy planes isn't too bad, as long as you know what your side is flying and what the other side is. The only real problems I have are when clipped-wing Spits and 109s are both up; from certain angles and at a distance it gets hard to tell one from the other. I run at 1280x1024 but all I can see are specks until the plane gets to about twice my guns range, so if I see a speck I'll quickly note which way it's going and how fast, then if there's any lingering doubt I'll head for it and linger just out of guns range. Obviously it's not so easy when they're head-on to you, but if you follow them around enough for them to give you a full-planform shot, it should be fairly easy to tell which side they belong to.
