Ambient airfield sounds
#1

Is there a way to make ambient sounds at an airbase? Something like birds chirping and wind noise and what not? There is such a mod for CFS sims and I think it would add a bit more to immersion.

Just my thoughts...

there is.....it is built into the game....but these soundtracks only play during the mission menu screen and when with co-ops you are choosing your a/c...until you press fly...they repeat
the sounds are in the root/Samples/sounds folder... as wav files

you must add them to the top of a mission file ...but they will get wiped out whenever you open the mission in FMB

[MAIN]
briefSound samples/sounds/Siren1Navy.wav
MAP OkinawaLAL/load.ini

like this you put them under [MAIn] and above the MAP in the mission file

iirc its a default ingame feature but I dont use music...

you need music on and C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\samples\Music\TakeOff\airfield1.wav

sorry m8 ... isn't that \samples\Sounds\..... ( cos i have bunch of brifing/airbase wav's there ) ?

...or it doesn't matter cos you assign path for it via mission file ....

I have already thought of this but my knowlege of cloning such an object is nil.

I could experiment with the exsisting siren just to see if it will work though. I already have a nice sample in mind.

Heres what I have discovered....

The ambience WILL work for the siren, however there must be an "enemy" aircraft already AIRBORNE in order for the siren/ambience to start playing. So, if your flight is on the ground in take off position and there are no more planes in the air the sound will not play. It will work great if you are returning home from a mission and you land and have other planes in the landing pattern though.

I wonder if there is way the siren could be modded to play whether there are planes flying or not? It would seem that it would have to be possible, after all, if you place an enemy AA artillery piece within firing distance of planes on the ground it will shoot at them whether they are flying or not.

Hmmmmm.

This is what I have done. For some reason neither the siren or the ambience will play unless there is already an aircraft in the air.

Heres what I did.....

I placed 1 (blue) Bf109 on the runway for takeoff with only a single waypoint to travel to. Then I placed a siren (red) fairly close to the takeoff point. When the mission starts, whether the siren is using the siren sound or ambience, it will not play untill the plane is in the air.

Using the same scenario, I then placed another (blue) Bf109 in the air over the field at 2500m. As soon as the mission starts either the siren or the ambience does in fact play whilst I am still on the ground with engine off and the other plane is flying above.

What I am thinking is there is something in one fo the siren's files that forbids it from "shooting" the sound untill there is an enemy aircraft in the air and within range of the siren. I would investigate further, but have no idea where to begin with aquiring the files for the siren to clone or even how to do it. This beyond the scope of my current knowlege.

What I would like to do is make two new sirens, one for ETO with a more European ambience, and another for PTO that has more tropical sounding birds and or monkeys and what not. But for right now...I am stuck.

Oh well.

Would be neat, when a mission starts on a carrier flight deck, to hear: "Now hear this, pilots man your planes." Guess there should be a way, just haven't found it yet.

If I knew how to find and extract the files for the siren I might make some head way on this little project but I am still unclear how this done. This is only half the problem as well, I will still need to clone object as well. Perhaps in time it will be made clear to me.
