Technical problem with my install.
#1

Hi all, I still have two questions about the installer:
Since last Sunday I have re-installed Il-2, patched it to 4.08, downloaded the Installer again and still have the same strange effect as previous: all versions work ok, only when I put a minus sign before
Bf 109F1, the Fw-190A5U4 or the RWD 8 the game crashes at 60% back to the desktop.
And in 4.09 I still have the same default skins as before. Do I have to replace the fb_3do20.SFS file that came with the installer with the one in the 4.09 skins download?

Please advise

Hi , its not that I hate these planes - I don't hate any plane I guess - but one likes one plane more than another. I'll never fly the '1946' planes like the Lerche, Ta 183 etc. And in the case with the 109F, I very much liked the 109F Jabo mod, so that's the one I'll fly and not the F-1.
I didn't remove the planes from the map, just put a - sign in front of the name and than the game crashes at 60%.
Do you know about the 4.09 skins? Do I have to install that SFS file or does the installer have the right one?

Thanks for your answer.

there is a folder in MODs called STD - here you will find inside other folders - plane_ru.properties, weapons_ru.properties and all.ini. if you remove the entries in all of these for the plane you want to remove the game should not crash. however it would be easier to scroll past the planes on the list and not choose it... that said - different strokes for different folks, as they say Big Grin

I'm not too sure what you mean about the sfs file, I've never needed to replace it specifically for any reason - so i would say the installer has the right one...

Thanks Pirate, I just want to disable some of the planes by putting a - in front of of its name. When I do this with Bf-109F-1, Fw-190A5U14 and RWD 8 the game crashes at 60% load-up. That's what I want to solve.
And about that SFS file; in 4.09 I still have the same default skins as in 4.08. When I replace the fb_3do20.SFS file that came with the installer with the one in the 4.09 skin patch I have the new default skins. So I was under the impression that I have to swap these files, but sofar nobody has given a clear answer if this is neccesary.

I think someone said it before, but the game will search for the folders for these planes as long as it has the entries in the files in the STD folder, and crash if it does not find the folders they relate to, so no go with just adding the - to the folders. maybe if you had a seperate copy of the STD folder to copy into the mods folder for when you want to disable these aircraft, as well as the original... i could email you a copy with these alterations made?

As to the default skins it sounds like you have it sorted already? is the new fb_3do20.SFS file a part of a skins mod you use? as i said i have never needed to change it. Also there is in the unified installer a default skins mod with a folder for each aircraft - presumably just copy the skin you want into the appropriate folder (this i haven't tried yet)

Hi Pirate, thanks again for your answer. Do you mean that in order to disable an aircraft, I must clear its entries from the air.ini and plane_ru.properties?? I have disabled other airplanes in the Mod folder just by putting the minus sign in front of their name and the game didn't crash on these, just on the three mentioned. But I'll try this with a copy of STD.

About the 4.09 skins, when updating from 4.08 the patch was in two folders, one with the game and map changes and a special skins folder. When this last one was installed it changed a number of default skins and voids. And as I didn't see this change after using the AAA installer, I thought that I had to install this file separately. Didn't know about the skin mod you're talking about. Will give it a try right away.

I see, the modded 4.09 patch doesn't include the skins pack - and so doesn't include the fb_3do20.SFS which i assume activates them within the game. It was so long ago that i downloaded the original 4.09 i had forgotten about the extra skins! which i am downloading now... cheers for the reminder! will certainly be quicker than adding skins to the SKINMOD folder 1 at a time Big Grin

I guess that disabling some planes won't crash the game, while some do is due to different ways of adding new content to the game. most of the new planes had (before the unified mod) an installer .exe while the blitz pack (which included the F1 and others) was a manual install and required you to add the lines to the text files yourself.

let me know if you have any more problems, I've had to reinstall the game so many times now that i'm getting pretty good at playing around with the mods. Now that the unified installer is here, I'm almost sad i don't have to install everything manually now - was quite a challenge to install all the mods i use in one go without it crashing Confusedhock:

Hi Pirate, you're great man. I've tried the skinmod yesterday and I like it very much. Did'nt even know what this mod did javascript:emoticon(''). As I can't see any difference in crash behaviour if I have the 4.09 SFS or the 4.08 one, I'll think I'll install the 4.09 one and use the skinmod for the ones that where not changed.

I'll go and try to change the air.ini, plane_ru.properties and weapon_ru.properties and see what comes from this. If ok with you I'll PM you on another problem.

Hi all, just to inform you that the problems I had are over. Under guidance of Pirate -thanks again m8- I've removed all entries concerning the BF-109F-1, Fw-190A5U14 and RWD-8 from ..\Mods\STD\com\Maddox\il2\objects\air.ini, ..Mods\STD\i18n\plane_ru.properties and ..\Mods\STD\i18n\weapons_ru.properties. After this the game started up alright. I then removed the maps BF-109F-1, Fw-190A5U14 and RWD-8 from MODS as I did'nt see that I would use thes again. And again after this the game started up OK: problem solved.

As far as the default skins concern I've installed the fb_3do20.SFS + a number of new voids from the 4.09 skin patch. Again the game loaded perfect. My new problem is that I can't get that big smile from my face when flying Il-2. Big Grin Big Grin
