Hello everybody,
I wrote some missions for "emergency takeoffs" - strafers are approaching the airport. These missions result of a tool I wrote for random mission generation, the Sturmovizer (click at the banner below for futher info), so you won't know in advance that it will be an emergency takeoff, could be as well a normal mission.
When flying a standard Il-2 Sturmovik you are warned by sirens that enemy aircraft are approaching, but since the installation of the sound mods you can't hear the sirens any more while the motor is running (as I guess is realistic). In real life, in such a situation, you'd get a warning through the radio system, and/or by (red?)flares shot from the control tower.
The same in principle is true when you are going to land, and enemy aircraft are still in the vicinity of the airport - a warning by radio, or/and by flares. In the Il-2 upon landing request, however, you won't get any warning.
Well, the most realistic thing in such a situation would be a radio warning "Be aware of enemy aircraft near the airport!". I doubt, however, that it is easy to create such a mod, I assume that one would have to go too deep into the program.
The second best possibility then would be a ground object "flares", which then could be incorporated into the missions. I am not a modder, so what I write here might be naive, but I guess that it should not be too complicate to modify existing ground objects to result in a flare:
What would be required?
In principle a modified anti aircraft gun. You have an action radius, and for any eneny aircraft being located within the radius the flak is starting to shoot. That's in principle what you need for such a warning flare, only that you do not need a direction for the flare to be shot - just upwards is fine. Another ground object as a basis might be the siren - which probably has the accurate alarming radius.
The second part you need is the visual part of the flare, the spark of fire. In principle the flak fire might be the basis, although also the "smoke" might be a basis - like the flare it's just rising upwards.
Parameters which probably have to be set then for this ground object would be the frequency of sparks to be shot, the diameter of the reaction radius, and (obviously) the allied/axis toggle.
Wouldn't that be an enrichment for the game? Imagine you want to land the plane - but then you see the sparks of the flare coming from the tower, and you realize that there are still strafers nearby?
I looked for the presence of such a ground object or mod, but I couldn't find anything. I have seen that the idea of flares has already been discussed in connection with tower activities (cf. http://allaircraftsimulations.com/forum/...ight=flare), but I couldn't see it realized anywhere. Hopefully I didn't overlook it.
What do you think? Is there possibly already work in progress for something like that?
Best greetings and wishes,
chanklaus!
