"Samples(sounds) Folders in two place-is this bad?
#1

I asked this before a long time ago but never got a satisfactory answer...now after an extensive reinstall some time ago I noticed it has happened again( i might add everything works just fine inspite of it...)
I have two apparently similar "Samples "folders ( with mostly engine & gunfire sounds) one in in the Game "files" folder and is named Samples & is dipically where i drop Modded sounds as default destination( I have also been told that this could go into modded folder just as easily, but thus far I have resisted that temptation to move it) The second "Samples" Folder has its own place in main game directry & has as you probably know other folders with in it:Music ,Sounds( with primarily sounds from Carrier ops as near as I can figure that seldom if ever show up anymore in game play...) ,Speech and all the afore mentioned Engine & gun sounds sort of floating around "Loose" as it were.
So here is my question: should I streamline these folders? If so how- what to combine - what to delete & where to put the results...or just don't do anything - if it ain't broke...don't fix it...??
Enquiring minds want to know... :?

Not necessarily. The game will use first come first serve. So, which ever folder is first on the tree is the one that will get used.

So can I...shall I...eliminate the odd bits in the main menu sample folder- it does come second in the order of things...???

Game loads any file just once .... first file that it finds !!!

... modded game checks and loads files by this order:

1 from Mods folder alphabetically

a) first get loaded hashed files present in any mod ( those which looks like ABX435XX512XX )

MODS\ "any mod folder" \ ABX435XX512XX

b) rest of files present in subfolders in any installed mod

MODS\ "any mod folder" \ "game structure subfolder"\.....

2 from Files folder

only files which hasn't found/loaded from Mods folder

3 from game root

first from SFS files and then from folders in main game directory

again, only files which hasn't loaded from Mods or Files !

So basically you can get rid of any "double" folders/ files without problem ( respecting upper explained order) and game will work just fine .
Removing any default file/folder from game root directory is risky business cos you must be absolutely sure that you have all needed files present in Mods or Files folder before such action ... and since game doesn't load double files they have no influence in game performance whatsoever , all that you can gain from such action is some free disk space , nothing more .

Hope this explains it ...
