OK Thunderbolt.. first off.. This thread @ UBI is from back in the early days of 4.07m > 4.08m (remember though the whole switcher issue started with the Pe-2 add on.. )
HOWEVER
Here is what I did.. and I got it working..
Make sure you back up your install before you do this just in case.
I can now switch between 4.09 & 4.09b1mModded (and 4.08 for that matter.. but why..) Bear in mind that a lot of this depends on what you want to do. For me I see no need in keeping an unmodded version of 4.09b1. Some may feel differently.. I also intend to delete my 4.08 versions all together and just go back & forth from 4.09b1mModded -->4.09m. I have no need to go to 4.08 at all now that the official 4.09 dedicated server patch is out and Zutis 4.09b1M moving DRF map mod is out... so 4.08 is just a waste of HD space. Before i did this (I dont know if it will matter or not considering how I did this) I switched to 4.08m.
1- I installed the patch to a separate folder.. not directly to 46..
2- Go to: C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\_Game Switchers\4.09 Mods OFF (Original)
remove the 21,922 KB file files.sfs from that folder.
3-Copy the 24,524KB files.sfs file from the 4.09m patch that you installed to a seperate folder into the C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\_Game Switchers\4.09 Mods OFF (Original) to replace the sfs file you just removed (which was the old sfs file from 4.09b1m)
4-Then copy the regiments & skins folders from the patch folder into your 46 Paints folder.. then copy all the rest of the other files including the sfs file into your 46 main folder (which is basically just manually installing the patch)..
Open up your switcher.. and select 4.09b1 standard.. and it should boot up to 4.09m (Not 4.09b1m because remember.. you took that sfs file out) ... If you look at the game switcher folder you will see that the folder is already named 4.09 mods off (original) . When you switch to any of the modded versions it should load ip to that without a hitch.. The only problem I had was that some of my old QMs would lock up the QMB.. but some wouldn't... that was odd.. but I could make new ones... and not all of the old ones locked it up. In fact there was only one.. which makes me think that the mission itself might be porked. Granted I cant fly the 4.09m planes in my modded install yet.. but I dont need two versions and I can just go back & forth between versions..
