Problem with auto leveler
#1

Has any of the bomber jock noticed any problem with the auto leveler not working? Ever since I installed UI 1.0 The auto leveler quit working...Tried remapping but that didn't work....After updating to UI 1.1 tried again and it still won't work. Is there a trick I'm missing?

There are two different commands, one is level autopilot, the other is level stabiliser. The one you are looking for is level stabiliser.

Yeah, not the auto pilot. Any Ideas?

Rog Junkers on two different controls in the settings.ini file.

Any idea of what the "Aircraft_Stabilizer" is supposed to do ?

This is (a portion of) what's in my settings.ini file. Yes, I've changed some of my control assignments from default.

KC..The stabilizer allows to go to the bombsight and get it dialed in without having to worry about flying the plane. Also makes the norden bombsight more accurate.

It is best to set the controls in-game, rather than through the settings.ini file. The Level Stabiliser maintains your altidude and keeps the plane level, it does not affect the rudder. The other command, Toggle Level Autopilot, actually toggles autopilot automation. What this means is that, suppose you were shooting with a turret gunner on your bomber and you switch back to cockpit view, if level autopilot is enabled the AI would take over, if not the gunner would not be controlled by AI unless you turned on the autopilot before leaving that position. I think that is what it does but I could be wrong.

Guys,

I think you misunderstood my post.

I've been using Level Stabilizer for bomb runs ever since I learned about it.

It was my very first assignment made before assigning keys for bombsight velocity (TAS), altitude and bombsight angle control.

My question is about the settings.ini entry that I've highlighted.

No, I don't make assignments in the settings.ini file but in the game's control assignments window.

I was just showing you what my settings.ini file looks like as a result of changing control assignments in game, and asking if you knew what that strange entry was for.

Quote:N=AIRCRAFT_STABILIZER ? ? ?

I've asked on other forums and they couldn't figure it out even though it shows up in their settings.ini file.

Is it in your settings.ini file ?

And while on Level Stabilizer my AI gunners are blasting away (for online games - not sure about offline) without touching autopilot.

I'll admit that at first glance, the multiple terms used here seem similiar but are not - in actual function.

I appologise for misreading that KC Jones. I checked my Settings.ini file and it says the same thing:

N=AIRCRAFT_STABILIZER
Joystick1 JoystickDevice0=Stabilizer

As you can see the button "Joystick1 JoystickDevice0" is assigned to stabilizer which is what I set it to in the game, and my Nav lights are activated using the keys "N+L" so I have no idea what AIRCRAFT_STABILIZER means. I'll let you know if I figure it out.

Drummer,

Are you trying to hijack this thread Big Grin

So it worked before you installed UI 1.0 ? What version were you using before installing 1.0 ?

What keyboard key do you have assigned for Level Stabilizer (not "auto leveler) ?

I ask this because if it was Power 10, which is now used by "bomb bay doors open/close", that may be the problem.

So, what keyboard key do you have assigned to Level Stabilizer.

Remember, we are using very similiar sounding names here.

We all can work from there.

Tell you what, a picture is worth a thousand words. Here's a screenshot of the "default" controls.

Is this the function you are talking about ? In the default ones you can see that no keystroke is assigned to "Level Stabilizer".

Before the UI 1.0 came out, I was using 408m with various mods. I had the "Level Stabilizer" programed to a button on my throttle (CH Pro Throttle). After I discovered that it didn't work anymore, I tried remapping it to "W" on the keyboard. That didn't work either. Just some FYI...Before I installed the UI, I completely unistalled IL2 and did a clean install...Patched to 408 and then the UI.

Since you did a "clean" install your control assignments went back to default. See my edited-in screenshot of defaults in previous post. We both must've posted at the same time.

Sounds like you have to re-assign your custom ones all over again; especially the Level Stabilizer which defaults to "nothing".

What I do when re-installing is:

Save my customized settings.ini in the Users folder to desktop; install fresh IL-2 (whatever version) and then copy and overwrite the default ones with my custom ones.

Saves a lot of headaches.

Keep us informed of your progress.

ps - "W" defaults to "tailwheel lock'.

You're welcome Drummer.

Glad you got it all sorted out.

It's tough trying to help long distance. That's why I prefer pictures if I can, instead of words.

Take care
