This May Not Be Possible, But I'll Ask Anyway....

...seeing as the modders have been doing things to this sim I thought could NOT be done.
Would it be possible to make the belly turret on the B-24 retractable. When I land the thing I can't help thinking about the poor guy in the belly who must be thinking he's about to get crushed to death.
Okay, I know he should be getting out before we land, but in the real one it did retract. Can it be done?

Sadly , I believe some guys got crushed to death after belly turret mulfunctioned due to enemy hits and quick needed emergency belly landing .
Holy cow am I wrong ?

was it impossible to climb back into the fuselage? That sounds unrealistic, since they entered the turret from the fuselage.

Ball turret movement should be managed by hydraulics and since the turret ball could get stuck in such position that you can't open the hatch or too late to bail out or belly landing you sure would get crushed to death .
Throw in wounded or some already dead crew that can't help you out and pilot about to belly land and you can get an idea.
I believe it does happened , not every day of course but there were such incidents .

In B-24s that were equipped with the Sperry ball turret, it was normal practice to retract the ball. The ball was not retractable in the B-17, however. The gunner (in both planes) normally rode in the fuselage during takeoff and landing. To enter/exit the ball, it was rotated guns pointing straight down. In that position, it was possible for the hatch to be opened allowing ingress/egress. The ball could be jettisoned for belly landings on both planes, though I doubt that it would be done if there was a dead/injured man inside.

Does the ball not automatically retract in the UI 1.1 modded B-24? I know in the stock game it stays retracted until enemy planes are spotted.

It's glitchy for some reason...

I assume because of the cockpit mod...
