Timing of flame, smoke and bomb's craters ....

Hi everybody !

I find that timings of flame, smoke and bomb's craters are very wrong in game.

For exemple :
1. a truck is destroying. A flame appear during 5 seconds, and a smoke during 10 secondes ... We could double this time ?
2. a plane is crashing. A flame and smoke appears during 20 minutes ! It's too long. In WW2 a aircraft breaked itself, but don't burn during 20 minutes with a big black smoke like the game !
3. When you drop bomb on ground, a crater appears. But it wear off quickly ... too quickly

I know that this effect could make heavy the Work Process PC, and it won't be a good idea to let these effects endlessly. But it will be interresting to adjust these timings like this, for example :
- flame and smoke because of destruction object (truck, house ...) --> 1 minute
- flame and smoke aircraft crashing --> 3 minutes
- bomb's craters --> 20 minutes

What do you mean about this ? And someone know if it's possible ?

I would like the craters to last the whole mission

and would love longer ship sinking times and smoke from vehicles destroyed too...but I agree...the long black smoke columns of destroyed a/c are too unrealistic

would make online play a lot more fun - take an A20, and those parachute bombs... fly down the runway.... fill it full of pot-holes Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Completely agree!
It's possible I think, only I haven't found the right files. Look into files of type ".eff". There's a couple of smoke .eff files (in the 3do folder and also in the com folder). All these eff have a finishtime parameter and a livetime parameter, also a size parameter. By trial and error we might find which smoke .eff files to modify. I picked such a file some time ago, changed parameters, smoke duration and aspect changed but not as I wished so i think it was not exactly the right .eff file to change.

Found something, testing.....

Changing smoke color for trains, duration for wreckage smoke and so on.... at this time, 3 min for cars ....... testing for muche more time.

I tried all day yesterday to find the smoke from the crashed planes...but nothing I could find worked

Cept parafrags shouldn't damage a runway, they are frag bombs to shread planes and other soft targets.

it would make a DF map a bit more interesting for me
I've always preferred co-ops whereas Df is just like a free-for-all

giving the bombers a useful job to deny use of enemy airfield and fighters to escort them or stop the enemy

perhaps the spawn points could be put 'Off-limits' for cratering

but once a map was 'won' by one side... just start a new one

So, now, wrekage of tanks or vehicules have smoke during 2 min 15 (not able to do more, sorry).

Changed also color of smoke for trains.... (dark grey just over chemney, then very light gray....

I prefer.

can you find the one for aircraft crashes and reduce the time of that to 5 minutes

Which parameters did you change, and why were you unable to obtain more than 2 minutes?
And I agree too with Fred, that plane smoke lasting forever is pretty annoying, would be something to reduce it's duration.

Don't found (or perhaps really searched) for the plane, will search more Wink

For the cars, trains and vehicules, played with effects/amokes/cardyingfire, cardyingsmoke and so on.... with timings......

played with livetime of effects and frequency of repetition..... don't know why when increasing more and more the parameters, i have no more duration.... :oops:
