Is there anything that has to be done to a dedicated server in order to host missions using modded maps?

I wonder whether it would be possible to improve the Singapore map(s) which could do with some attention to detail. The second non-existent causeway is one thing that needs to be removed, and the RN dockyard area created- things that should have been done from the start by RRG.

I have a question for all the map makers.

I want to get involved in map making, and the latest tutorials are great stuff.

But, I need to know how to I transpose pixels into kilometers? I wanted to get a head start on the Slot map(s) by using the Hawaii map, which is 1010km wide by 1550km high. How do I transfer 1010x1550km into pixel size?

On map_c.tga one pixel is 1000m/32 . On map_h and map_T one pixel is 4000m/32 (so map_c has a different scale than map h and map T).
If you start with Hawai, the coresponding map_c,T,h will not span 1010 Km by 1550 Km but a much smaller region centered on the islands, the water around that region is added automatically (see load.ini and compare for all maps which have islands). That's a fantastic project!

hi lowfighter, i calculated a different proportion in km/pixels i.e. 1600m/32 = 1000m/20

There must be something I'm not understanding. What are these proportions? 4000m/32?

If one pixel is 4000m on Map_H, than that would mean my elevation map would be 388x253, which doesnt make any sense to me.

I calculated the map_h.tga for Hawaii (which is 1600x800) to be 320x160km, so that comes to 200m per pixel. Which now doesnt make any sense at all, since a map 1550x1010km would be 7750x5050 pixels.

By 1000m/32 I mean 1000/32 meter and so on. But maybe Gitano calculated it right 1600/32 meter. I'll recheck tomorrow...Meister check pm tomorrow too.

Ok, recalculated in a more thorough way and Gitano is right! On map h or map T one pixel corresponds to 200 meter. On map_c one pixel coresponds to 50 meter.

That means if it was the other way around: 1 px coresponds to 50 meters on h map (height?) does it means that we could have 4 times more precise maps? Is there a way to do that? Then again maybe land (terain) 3D mesh cant do that. Just a thought .. .

I don't know if that would be easy to change, it must be something hidden deep inside the game engine.

Speaking of elevation, I dont know if you guys know this but SRTM data is available free on the internet. A lot of scenery modders for the MSFS series use this data to make more accurate terrain.

I used the 3DEM program and played with the colour scale for topography and it gave me this:

This is part of Choiseul Island in the solomons. Plus the program saves to .tga...The section of map here is aproximately 30x30 nautical miles.
