Map Modifying Discussion - History (Read Only)

@Skunkmeister:

... just tried messing with files you've sent me .... seams to me actors.static is the problem ....
managed to load it with empty file but all i got was the ocean ...

BTW wich map did you use for start ( and for rest of the files)?

stay tuned

You mean where I got the real map to make this one?

If you go on the website http://srtm.csi.cgiar.org/SELECTION/inputCoord.asp , you pick out the areas you want. Then you open the file (its a .tif) with an image program like irfanview. The image is 6000x6000pixels, and you must resize that file to 2784x2784 pixels to get the scale needed for map_h and map_t. It will give you the land masses in black and the ocean in gray. Then its just a matter of playing with tones in photoshop to get the colours needed.

Using the program that boomrang links to in a previous post (3DEM) you can open these tif files and it will give you SRTM elevation data, precise to 90m.

So actors.static is a problem...I will try that again tonight, maybe I didnt map the elevations properly.

... i meant from what original game map did you took actors.static file ?

Oh for Aleutians I used Hawaii.

I tried it with an empty actors.static and I still get the load.ini error.

size of new map is the same as hawaii or you enlarged it ... same question for map_c.tga ?

map_h and map_T for Hawaii are 1600x800, which is what I used for Aleutians.

map_c is 4 times that size.

... something is wrong ... tried to comp/decomp default finsgulf and hawaii (without any changes) ... and FMB showed me the finger both times..... Grrrrrr!

...back to square one .... will post progress

Ah so its not necessarily related to the files I created...that is good news Tongue

Ok gentleman, been mucking around with height, with the very good help of fly_zo (Can't express how much I can thank you mate Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin ) and the following results are in:

colour values R:255 G:255 B:255 equals to 4000-4030 meters altitude.

Hope this helps Smile

I tried something else...

I copied all files from default Hawaii to my Aleutians folder...and I get the same result as you. So it has something to do with either the map_h or map_T I'm guessing. There must be something in the format that I am saving them to that isnt right.

Check it out Big Grin
