Do hybrids have to replace the base plane they use, or can a hybrid replace any aircraft?

For example, one of the 3 engined italian frankenplanes shown. Could it be set to take the place of say, the Lerche?

I ask, because all the 1946 fantasy planes would be fine (for me) if they didn't exist.

So a mod that used all the silly jets etc for "extra plane spots" and replaced them with real ww2 prop planes would be fine with me.

It would then be possible to have a "frankenplanes" mod that adds at least 10-16 planes that are not needed for realistic ww2 simmers. The hybrids would take the place of the various fantasy planes, jets, and props that didn't see any significant (or any at all) combat.

i'm no expert but:

If you were to put anything in another planes slot, it would need to use that planes FM... so you'd have a 3 engined Italian bomber frankenplane with the FM of a lerche.

Sucks - I know - but its the only way, for now...

But, I agree with you on what your saying - would love to remove said Lerche, and most of her stablemates also. Except perhaps, the YP80, Mig-9, and one or two of the others

Frankly, I have to admit I'm not in the "all or nothing" club when it comes to FMs and DMs.

As far as I'm concerned the 1946 planes, ehck, some of the BS 1945 planes, too, can disappear forever. I'd be totally fine with a 5.0 or 6.0 labeled il-2 supermod that dumped all of the fantasy/marginal jets and uber-prop planes and replaced them with useful prop planes. Early/Mid war if possible.

I'd be fine with expunging glaring FM/DM errors, too (F6F speed, single 20mm hits flipping a P-47 on its back, SBDs with 500lb bombs on the wings, etc, ad nauseum).

I was doing some messing last night and I sort of managed this.

I basically told the P-80 to get it's model from the Yak-9, and when I loaded the game the P-80 did indeed appear as Yak. The controls didn't work though, so there must be another set of files that I didn't extract that govern movements.

With regards to the FM, I reckon you'd just be able to copy an existing FM of a similar plane.

So, in my example, I copied the Yak-9 because I want to have a Yak-7B(late) with cut-down fuselage. So, I would be happy with using the Yak-9's flight model.


This all needs some more work though

I'd dearly love to see a Ki-45

Looks like it might be possible to use the Bf-110 and the Pe-2/3 wings. The empanage would have to be something else. Perhaps the B5N or D3A?
