Nvidia multimonitor (OT?)
#1

I have some rendering problems with my multimonitor setup: I use 2x nVidia 7950gt with 3x LCD 19'' monitors, two connected to the main and one to the secondary video card.
No TH2G box + SLI but simply monitors connected to the video cards.
It does work but despite having tried lots of drivers and settings, I couldn't get rid of two problems:

1- I can't run in Perfect mode because if I do all the water in monitor #2 and #3 is white like milk. Monitor #1 looks good (that's the primary monitor)

2 - Running in Excellent mode I have a slight cloud flickering problem left. I played with the settings, tried several drivers, and eventually got the flickering well under my "annoyance threshold" (i.e. limited to the two side monitors and not much anyway) I can play the game and the multimonitor experience is well worth some slight flickering but it would be really nice if I could use perfect mode or at least get completely rid of the cloud flickering.

OS: stripped-down WinXP Pro x64
Driver: Fordceware 96.89

See here and here for more details about my problem.

Sorry for the slightly off-topic post, I thought I should ask here because this community seems to be more 'techy' than most others
(Is it less off-topics if I ask for a mod to fix my problem?)
Merry Christmas, everyone.

I don't have time to find a link right now but there is a long thread about just this over at the Ubi forums, there were several solutions for these issues.

Hi,

Is this 'similar' to the problem you are getting??

No. Ground, trees, coastlines, etc look good for me.
My only problem are the clouds that sometimes change color when I look at them from some particular angles, then go back to normal as I continue to look around. This only happens on the two side monitors in Excellent mode.

perfect mode 'almost' fixes the clouds (sometimes a thin line of 'extra' clouds that shouldn't be there appears on the side monitors) but Perfect mode is much worse than Excellent because the water appears white as milk on the two monitors that Windows considers 'secondary' , i.e. the central and right-hand side ones.
Setting TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=0 turns the water really dark on all the three monitors, almost black.

I decided to stick with Excellent mode as that slight cloud flickering is much less annoying than the water rendering problems in Perfect mode.
Actually my Excellent mode is "excellent+" or "quasi-perfect", achieved by setting everything to max values in conf.ini except for UsehardWareShaders=0.
When I open the Video Options interface, it claims it's running in Perfect mode but actually it's kind of a 'tweaked Excellent', prrof is the fact that if I click 'apply' without changing anything, it takes time to complete and eventaually the water turns white (or black if that textflags setting is set to 0).

Problems are still there after installing 4.09 beta and mods updater.
I had previously tried Oleg's 8800 dll's but that didn't help, and now 4.09 installed new dll's.

Hi,

Well, I'm definately no expert, but I solved the above problem by getting 1 more GB of memory, in other words I had 2 GB & I moved up to 3 GB. It worked & the ptoblem never came back.

I would reccomend that you prepare a long & loaded winter mission (lots of planes, terrible weather conditions, thunder, the full lot!) and run it to see if you get the fault i had....it could be the same issue & if so, at least you know where the problem could be comming from. Confusedhock:

Hope it goes well

Definitely not the problem (I got 4GB).
My problem must have to do with the need to fool il2 into thinking that there's only one monitor: I heard that Matrox TrippleHead2Go users don't have this problem.
Anyways, the white-water only affect Perfect mode, I can run Excellent mode with pretty good results except for a slight cloud flickering on the two side monitors. I managed to reduce it a whole lot and it's not a real problem now, but getting completely rid of it would be cool (and being able to run Perfect mode would be even cooler)

This is how it looks with UseHardwareShaders=1 (i.e. Perfect mode) and TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=0

Next one is Perfect mode with TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1
Notice the water on the left-hand side monitor NOT looking white.

And now for the clouds problem in Excellent mode: in the next screen you can see clouds on the right side of the picture (right-hand side monitor) looking fairly good and those on the left-hand side monitor (left 1/3 of the picture) where the colors are wrong:

As I move the sight towards the center, the clouds on the side monitors change colors (next shot)

...until they become (almost) the same color of the sky, or more specifically, they "borrow" one of the sky's colors (they often appear white when there's a very bright sun low on the horizon)
If you look closely at the right 1/3 of the picture below, you can still see the clouds, even tho they're as blue as the sky:

This problem only shows up in Excellent mode, but as I can't run Perfect mode (the white (or black) water is much more annoying) solving it would be a huge step forward. It appears very annoying as seen in these screenies but it's actually not _that_ bad: first of all it doesn't happen all the time, and in second place, it tends to get better as I climb (the higher the better). Also worth noticing that once in combat you don't really think about how the clouds look like.
The cloud flickering problem seems to appear more often when the sun is low on the horizon. It must definitely be about sight angles: notice how the color change depending on where I look.

No drivers or settings changes could solve these problems completely; I got my "best" ("least bad") results using Forceware 96.89 with a modified .inf file to make it accept my Geforece 7950GT cards.

Hi,

just to reply to your pics, remember i am not talented enough to give technical advice, but i have had the game since it came out & have been through all this as well.

1. The white water, that is not a multimonitor problem. Thats happened to me as well on my normal flat screen. Happens on maps with lots of water , lots of objects & low sun. Simply try & avoid those situations. Confusedhock:

2. on the clouds, i've also had that when you get lots off stuff on the map, thing is that with 1 monitor you rarely notice, but what is happening is that the clouds are forming as & where you need them, in order to be able to run the rest of the game.

Remember that the human being can see 180, but the pc works this differently, thats why as you move the mouse, they appear or dissapier. Try increasing the view distance setting, if it can be done, this might help.

Well sorry for that, not much help but at least you know your not the onlyone

good luck & hope that you sort it out soon

Hi and thanks for the answer

1 - no, it happens on all the maps, even when all the water around is in a couple of rivers and it never happenedwhen I used one monitor. Besides the left hand side monitor is configured as main on windows, and that's the only one that dispays water correctly in Perfdect ,mode. Coincidence? Maybe.
2- This happens mostly when the un is low but it doesnt seem to be related to the amount of stuff on screen, looks more like it depend on the reciprocal angles of sun, clouds and sight.

Exactly same problem - i also have to use hardwareshaders=0 and reduce to excellent ... i also saw a few tweaks with drivers but nothing really work... avoid sync with monitor refresh rate as it give a few fps and sometimes i also see that if i wait +- 20 seconds befor enterinf the map, i have more fps than if i hitted FLY immediately....so let's wait until next product (BOB) i think and better support of triple monitor...

Use OS VISTA. In Vista no problems with water and other on rith monitor. In Vista install- MAIN-Left monitor.
