A6M3 model 22
#1

Hi all!

This is my first post here, so i want first to congratulate with all who contributes to make our favourite game better with these splendid modes!
I have a suggestion, i am not a programmer and my knowledge of how doing new planes as you do looks like behyound my comprehension's possibilities  but i jope someone will find my idea interesting as i do.
Why not doing an A6M3 model 22? It was the main fighter of the second half of 1943 for japanese and more numerous than model 32. I think it must be also easy to do. Fuselage of A6M3 model 32, wings of A6M2 21 and exterior appearance is done. For flight model, if someone will also do this, we have a better range (100 miles more than A6M2 Confusedhock: ), roll rate almost as A6M3 32 (thanks to the introduction of an effective balancing trim tab system), slightly better high alt climb and turn than A6M3... but already to have an "only external" model 22 to twin with the new Slot map will be fantastic!

I made this mod last week, as it was my very first mod it took me 4 hours to complete it. I was to uploading it last Sunday, but I found that somebody had already done it... Sad
Here is an image, left wing remains the original A6M3 type 32 one as example.

It should be made a new default skin, as nav lights now are in a wrong position.
Anyway, in my mod flaps are better placed... Maybe a new slot for this plane?

I'd like to see the variant too. I do believe you'll find according to the historical record (i.e. recovered airframes) the A6M5 (Model 52) was widely employed at least in the South Pacific by November 43. It is noted at a variety of sites the Model 22 had a very short service life, although slightly more were produced than the Model 32, during late 42 to early 43. In this the Model 22 appears much like a mid-production update based on pilot requests.
The Model 52 however was based on the Model 32 airframe, though the wing structure was lightened and overall skinning thickened. This was because roll rate and dive speed had now become more important than range and manoeuvrability, and it was these elements the Model 32 had inadvertantly achieved.
Also it was only a 52 litre increase in internal fuel between the Model 22 and its predecessor, much of the range lost to the Model 11/21 was regained by fittings for two underwing drop tanks instead of the single underfuselage one.

But again I'd still like to see the Model 22 just for completeness sake. Why should Germany have every 109 under the sun and Japan miss out? Cripes, the poor blighters need all the help they can get in the Pacific War

I'd also really love to see this plane for 1946 campaigning (with carrier equipment), only one made it off the production line before the end of the war:

And it'd be nice to see the N1K floatplane version see the light of day in its own slot, with a new FM.

Wow! It looks like i hit a "hot" key! :o

Very glad to see that it is already available... just a question: why it is not posted in the "aircraft download" section?

I wonder if it's possible to make Fly's mod a plane with its own separate slot, in the way that the Russian Blitz team did for the Chaikas and the Yak-7B_Late i.e. by adding the relevant lines to the air.ini, planes.ru and weapons.ru files......... Will look into this tomorrow, almost bedtime now.

Now I'm working on a further improvement of my previous A6M3 type 22 mod, I'll post some news and images as soon as I can.
As I've written before, it's my very first mod, so I take A LOT of time modifying hier.him entries values and testing the obtained results again and again. In a couple of days I hope I could have something.

It seems not to be so easy... To work properly, there has to be an hashed file pointing at particular FM and weapons. Only a few modders can do it, I think.

About this excellent aircraft, only some senior 3D modders could made it, and they're all involved in their own projects... Maybe, I hope, one of them reading this topic could consider this idea.
By the time it was made, all Japanese carriers were already sunk, so it should operate only from ground.
Famous ace Saburo Sakai was one among this aircraft test pilots, and I've read in his autobiography that he considered it as the best plane he had ever flown. In the meantime, he also succeeded in shooting down a B-29 flying a Zero... Confusedhock:
