...by making missions...
I know many feel they are no good at making any mods to contribute....and plenty of map-makers, with an ever dwindling number of places which need maps done.... but if you really want to help contribute ...then make missions
without good missions....all this stuff is useless. Plenty make do with the limitations of the QMB, but it really isn't that hard to learn how to use the FMB, and once you get involved in it it can be as absorbing as flying.
come on all you ex-lego kids....... and ex-meccano kids (showing his age here) try building stuff with the FMB and the objects available are into 1000 already
in general terms i agree with you ffb .....
but , there is still lots of mods present which doesn't respect agreed mod structure ( placing object files, static.ini location ...) IMHO we need strict rule regarding adding new objects so mission builders doesn't have to worry when use custom objects .
So i strongly suggest using only official AAA mods ( maps/objects) when making missions/templates
lets make it as easy as possible for average users ...

I can help if you can make your requests in this format(example) :
name: (date) (map) ##
date: dd/mm/yy
map: Malta
mission type: intercept
allies: 4*SpitVc, 4*Beaufighter, 1*Seaplane, (RAF)
axis: 4*mc202.3, 16*DB-3 (ReggiaAeronautica ), 2*Ar-196, 1*Ju-52 floatplane, (Luftwaffe)
players flight: 4*SpitVc
players target: DB-3
players takeoff: (field or ship) Hal Far
players landing: Hal Far
comments: allied convoy of 8 ships in mission area
all I was trying to do was to encourage more people to start mission building....there are far too many users here and not many providers.....
without missions to fly all the rest is useless
I agree with Fabianfred, that mssions will greatly enhance map use. One problem is that missions (or at least campaigns) take almost as long as a map to produce. I am working on a slot campaign. I started work on the campaign the moment the map came out, and will proably be finished within a month or so. It would help if map makers could team with mission builders so that one or two campaigns could be released in the same time frame as the map. It would mean letting the mission builder work "at risk" on early versions of the map.
Not long after I first started playing il2 I began to tinker with the FMB....and you can spend more time building missions than flying
I used to upload them to Ubi....then to Sturmovik Technika (long gone)...... then to Airwarfare.com (predecessor to Mission4today).... then to Mission4today where there are still some of mine.... I use the nickname 'loon'
never got much feedback....but I never made them to be famous, just for my own pleasure and then shared them hoping others would enjoy them too.
Campaigns are a lot of work and so i have only really done single missions or co-ops
That made me laugh...I am in the "more time mission building than flying" phase right now. I just thought I was nuts.
I made a mini-campaign for the Slot map, and I built Dunkirk missions for an online coop event a couple weeks ago. I'm working on (as time allows, which isn't particularly often) another Slot mini-campaign, and I may turn the coop missions into the basis for yet another mini-campaign.
Including mods beyond the new maps can be tricky, as the constantly developing state of mods creates dangers of later incompatibility or obsolescence. Requirements for users to have specific mods installed can be problematic as well, as proven even in the small-scale testing provided by the Dunkirk coop we ran. My inclination is to be fairly careful about which additional mods I might require with an eye toward minimizing user hassles.
I do concur with others that the lack of feedback can be demoralizing. My unmodded stuff at M4T has several thousand downloads, with very few reviews. I'm guilty of it myself - I haven't given nearly enough feedback to the modders here - but without the motivation of some sort of response, it does begin to seem like one's efforts are rather unappreciated. Not that it will stop me from continuing to work on missions, but it likely slows down their production.
I couldn't agree more. I check for new missions all the time but there isn't near as much posted there as I'd like to see.
fabianfred, were you really Loon in a former life? I really love your old missions.
I wonder if others are around with new names too. Extreme One? Bird_brain?
I still lurk around here. I might try to get back in making a few missions with the new aircraft...
The main problem is that there are so many different kind of mods that you could need before you could fly missions and there's the .ini file hashling also you may need to do.
So i think it's best to wait for that "AAA uber mod_pack" that has all the best of mods in one.
