Updated Reticles for US, JA, IT & RU 11/20/09

MAHA,

Your P-39 reticle is excellent. I really like the way you converted it from the quarter type to a full screen render with the hier and Z_Z_RETICLE flies. Outstanding work.

I've done one using a small hatch mark instead of the rounded half circle shapes for the elevation marks, and slimmed it down a little.

I think it's just a matter of personal preference.

I'm looking for the actual reticle illustrated, what the reflection looked like on the reflector plate, what the pilot would see to aim with. Your material is fascinating, this is the kind of stuff I could spend days just soaking up. The slip ball illustration is perfect too. That's why I love it up near the sight on the P-51.

I think the N9 may have had just the reticle type we are using now. It's the one which is they have illustrated in your The N-9 Reflector Gunsight manual.

What part of Virginia are you living? We're practically neighbors.

Sorry Cat for not responding sooner. Been a hard night's day (old Beatles song). I live in Northern Virginia (not to be confused with the official Commonwealth of Virginia) [at least NOVA thinks they're a seperate state - phooeey !]

Nope, the book don't show any reticles used, just the gunsight devices themselves.

It is a fascinating book that is 632 pages, called "The Great Book Of World War II Airplanes" compiled by Rikyu Watanabe (including 24 Fold-Out Panels Suitable for Framing). Its one big hummer. The chapters on individual airplanes are authored by different folks. I didn't count how many warbirds are in there but with 632 pages, there's a lot.

Sometimes it shows things like the gunsights, drawings of machine guns, superchargers, different ammunitions, all authentic skins in colors, and always a numbered cut-away of the fuselage (which I find interesting in its details). It weighs about 3-4 lbs.

So no, no reticles.

But, did look up the P-38 and find that it used two different gunsights; the N-3 and the L-3. It just shows the device itself tho.

I'll show it here but I got questions for you about the N-9 and K-14. So don't go away.

Okay, with the K-14 the instructions for using are:

KC,

On the K-14 you have to use the toggle gunsight key you setup in your controls to change from the standard reticle to the gyro reticle. This is the re-sizable reticle effected by the different plane and distance selections.

I am having a recurring thought that the clever among you might consider :

Wouldn't it be cool if National Aircraft specifics - in this case reticle format - could be tied into the Natinality choice made in the advanced loadout box?

If it worked for this, it could also work for other characteristics could it not - uniforms, perhaps even available skins etc.

Just a thought. Spitballing.

Cat,

I do have it assigned. I use it a lot for my bombsight.

Here's my control assigments. The toggle sightmode (auto) is NumPad. (period)

Got any ketchup for the egg on my face ? and a little salt to go with it ?

I was hitting the numpad key0 to switch to bombsight view when in cockpit position 2; the toggle sightmode (auto) acts as a "bomb automation" function as well after you line up your target and are ready to release bombs.

 Cry  Sad

You're right, I didn't posted it because I'm not sure how authentic it is. Same for the P-39. They are from Troy Errthum's website: http://www.errthum.com/troy/warbirds/gu ... story.html

That's the only way I could get the entire reticle to fit the reflector screen and line up with the bullet path.

Have you done any Russian reticles? It seems to be the only ones that I haven't seen yet.
