Suggestions to speed up my system?
#1

Hi guys,

Here are my specs:

AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 6000 @ 3gigs
8 mb DDR2
nividia 8800 GT

If I wanted to speed my system up further, what should I do? I know IL2 is more cpu senstive than vid card sensitive.

I've already got one core dedicated to the game. Should I overclock the cpu, or is there a faster one that I can buy......or should I buy a new vid card?

Right now I run 1920x1200 with all the eye candy (perfect, water at 4, land geo at 3, etc...)in open GL at about 36 fps with the occassional stutter.....and it turns into a slide show with alot of ships firing artillery at each other....or a big bomber formation.

I can turn down the res to 1680x1050 and that brings it up to 50 fps, but I'd rather just buy a new vid acrd or processor.

let me know your thoughts.

Thanks in advance!

actually I believe il-2 is more video card sensitive in my expericance little partner. Smile I got a slower amd processor then you and it seems to do much better with each new video card I buy.

maybe upgrade your ram from 8 mb to 4 gb

try defragging the hardrive

I presume that was a spelling mistake about the 8mb RAM

I have a 8800 GTS 320mb card
Coreduo E6850 3.0 Ghz
3 GB RAM

I only have stutter if there are several planes burning on the ground in view.... in the air large bomber formations do not hit the FPS

Thanks guys, yes, it is 8 GB RAM, LOL!

I could buy another graphics card but it looks like I'd have to go GTX 280 or something just to get maybe 5 more fps.

i may try overclocking my cpu first, maybe get it to 3.2 Gigs...and see what happens.

What do you guys think about overclocking my 8800GT? There is a place in the nvidia control panel where I can do that easily.

Um... Nikka, I was wondering - is it necessary to run at such high resolution? I would love to see some screenshots from your game Confusedhock:

Anyway, if your after higher framerates - download Rivatuner, it is free, and is an excellent program which will allow you to overclock the graphics card + a whole host of other things. I'm sure you don't need me to tell you to be careful about overclocking.....

I find 1280x1024 fine with my Flatron L1960TR
any finer resolution would probably be wasted on my shortsighted eyes Confusedhock:

get ur hands on a extreme intel or a core280 one of thos will give u a huge jump. Are you useing any AA or AF ?

I run a quad q6600 @ 3ghz, 4gb running at 900mhz, nvidia 8800GTS Ac3 @ 1680x1050 running 4 water and high on every thing else. As well as 16x and 16x AA/AF and i get about 28 to 35. Overclock is good. I have done it to mine.

That AA and AF make the diffrence people !

Btw what company do you use for video card ? Evga ? XFX ?

Thanks hellzone,

I was using an EVGA 8800 GT but I went out yesterday and bought a BFG 8800 GTS OC and it seemed to bump the fps up about 7-8 fps. very happy with it so far.

I run 4x AA and 16x AF, and use nhancer to set the profile.

by the way i have run il-2 with a intel qx9650 quad core runnng at 4.4ghz coupled with 4 gb ddr3 and quad sli 9800gx2...you still get slow down over water. it is processor intensive, and overclocking can help mate. with this set up and max details average frame rate is 130, but water causes slow down and stutters. so to answer you don't need to buy new hardware for this game, maybe just overclock a bit. i believe that il-2 cannot utilize new technology such as multiple cores so performance can still be disappointing even with the above detailed system. rivatuner is the best for overclocking graphics cards, just do it slowly in 10-15mhz steps and test for artifacts after each change.

this game is single core, so having a processor like yours compared to my E8400 OC@ 4 Hz doesnt really matter

I just let all the apps except the game to go on the first core, and play the game on the second core

Great info guys. Now that I've upgraded the vid card, what do you think about replacing my amd 64 x2 6000+ @3.0 G with a 6400 @3.2 G? Maybe that would be better than overclocking mine?
