We need new pilot
#1

The Pilot figure ingame is a bit to large and low poly, is it possible to create a new pilot for il2? with a nice skin, everybody is just talking about ne planes but what about a nice guy to fly with?! Big Grin

I was wondering if it would it be possible to use the "running pilot" mesh as it is considerably better than the "sitting down" pilot.... I note that the skin is mapped slightly differently between them, but not a huge difference.

Any one have an idea how to do this, and possibly link in with Flt_zo's great little mod to give you company when you fly B25s ????

The pilot is so consistently bad for all aircraft that it's remodelling would be an enormous boost to the sim.

It is possible to have different pilot meshes for different countries aircraft too, as a pilot mesh is kept inside each aircraft folder for exclusive use by that particular plane. You could have luftwaffe meshes and RAF meshes, even tropical meshes for the Hurri IID and 109 trops. Japanese and USAAF aircraft could also have nationality specific pilot models. All this is possible.

The real trick though would be making sure that the new pilot mesh utilises the existing texture mapping, otherwise there would be quite a few potential problems. Do that though, and the difference it makes to the sim would be astounding.

What kind of poly count would the pilot mesh need to be, also what format does it need to be in to set it up for the converter?

Since the pilot is only viewed sat in his aircraft, jumping out of it, watching it plummet to earth beneath him, or sprinting away in a randm direction, I'm not convinced a high defintion model of a pilot figure is worth the effort. Still, whatever pleases you... Smile

are you sure ?

please if someone can give us better mesh for pilot i'll be most grateful ... thanks

edit:

to be more specific
... two body meshes mapped to their own tga files + couple of heads mapped to their own tga's

( i can live with same meshes just with different texture mapping )

Its not a major thing, but i have to agree, i'd like to see nicer pilot meshes. But also, the ground figures. Lets face it, they're worse! COuld someone model some nicer ground figures, such as ackack gunners and crew men etc. It'd add to the depth. Like Canon's Channel map. The ground figures look terrible, although they add so much tot he depth of the map, its why i love the map so much, the detail on airefields etc. Imagine if the ground figures actually looked good!

Annoying the annoying, so you don't have to.

Yes, better pilots definately needed.

If we also could synchronise their movement with Track-IR/hat switch would be a real bonus, no more (real life) wingmen staring blankly straight ahead as if in some sort of trance but actually watching your six ingame. Small detail, immersion boost enormous (Redwulfs usually fly in very tight formations enroute).
