[MOD] Pratt and Whitney R-2800
#1

This mod redoes a majority of the sounds for the Pratt and Whitney R-2800 engine, used in the F4U-1 Corsair, expecially interior sounds, Startup, and low RPM.

this still has many things to fix, and any suggestions are welcomed

Download

Enjoy.

In actuality the R2800 was used in tons of planes, the most notable example being the P-47 Thunderbolt.

I am aware of that, but the recordings were taken from corsairs only, so there may be slight discrepencies.

also, when I tested the p47, it seemed to use default sounds anyway, despite this mod.

In game, the P-47 uses the "R-2800_tb" files for its engine, not the standard R-2800 used for the Corsair, Hellcats, etc.

I guessed the TB stood for thunderbolt.

I listened to your wav files after I downloaded them, and well they don't sound correct at all. All I could hear was a high pitched whine...........

thats not good...

I'm pretty sure thats not what I'm hearing on this end of the line

what plane is it that you are experiancing them in

have you downloaded dive sounds ver. 2.2? i dont think its neccisary, but it may be

it may be a mod conflict, have you downloaded any other sound mods that affect the corsair besides the default one and the dive sound one?

lastly, is it at all RPMs or just a cirtain range?

thanks.

Recently installed the Unified Installer 1.0 which has many of the things you listed...........the sound is at all rpms, the 1000.wav sounds the same as the 2700.wav. Whenever I have changed sound files I have alway extracted the new wav files directly to the samples folder overwriting the existing ones. I have never put a sound file into the mods folder....

Yes, big difference. The prop blade makes a huge difference.

Ok, I've also listened to several recordings of the P47, and I am removing the update to the P47. I may have a future mod for it, but no guarentees.

If the sound files themselves are a high pitch wine, then try downloading the mod again.

Anyone else... if you have this problem please post, and we can try and find the source of the problem.

I think I have also the same problem. Samples don't sound like an engine at all Sad
Even outside the game, listening them with Windows Media Player, same result. Strange ...

Two issues: Internal sound is too quiet and sounds like a lawn mower

External sound is annoyingly loud, and audible over incredible distances.

Except for the volume, I rather like the external sound though.

~~~
Keep in mind my own system and settings have a profound effect on the in-game sounds. What I hear may not be what you hear.... I'll try to come up with the time and inclination to post a short video clip so you'll be able to hear what I do.
For me it is actually reversed, where internal was loud and external too quiet...
probably system configs, I dont know how to set it up for different computers.
You can change the volume of the mod in the presets\samples\PrattWhitney-R2800. under [SPL]. for some reason this affects external sound more than internal, so you may be able to get closer to what you want.
As to the internal sound at high RPM, I am currently looking for a better recording, but Internal recordings are rather sparse.
If anyone has any recordings from the inside of a Corsair at near max throttle, I'd really appreciate it.
