A Consideration for Night Engagements
#1

Firstly I'd like to say how exciting the ongoing developments are at AAA ; if only more of us plebs who just use the mods were able to continue directly - I wish I could.

I was just reading through a lot of threads last night, trying to catch up, and it crossed my mind that in all the flurry of night oriented engagements, including British bombers (Wellington, Halifax, Lancaster and Pathfinder Mosquito), as well as exciting night fighters ( from the lowly Blenheim IF to the He 219 Uhu and the P61, not to mention the venerable Bf 110G4 and the Ju88 Nfighters), as well as the twinklings of development of models for airborne radar, has anyone considered the deleterious effect of darkness on both the accuracy of visual target identification and inherent inaccuracy of visually aimed defensive guns?

Just a preliminary inquiry for consideration.

Are you talking about such in the context of AI planes? Those AI gunners are notoriously over effective, even on rookie stteings. AC ID is kinda rough at night, though I've noticed that most of hte time the night sky is not really very dark, compared to what it was a few patches back.....or so I think.

AI behaviour is being looked at with many beta mods, and is being redressed by Certificate probably as we speak..lol.. (he never sleeps).
The effect of night ops has already been mentioned.

Thanks for your responses gents.
Yes I am aware (as any IL2 fighter jock wannabe must be) of the superhuman g-resistant eagle eyed all elite enemy AI super defensive gunner effectiveness.
I was simply enquiring as to whether the deleterious effects of nocturnal visual impairment had been taken into consideration for the new AAA developments occurring re the night campaigns - indeed if it was at all possible to differentiate - between diurnal and nocturnal effectiveness.
