B 26?
#1

In looking at the workload list sticky in the WIP section here I see that the B 26 is listed as "off site development".
Is there any way to see if any progress has been made on this very important aircraft? Any links to the developer's site?
Or might this have been abandoned?
I don't mean to sound demanding, but to have an aircraft that was produced and flown in such large numbers missing from the game, while weird one-off prototypes are represented just seems odd to me.
And yes, I do understand that folks will do whatever interests them most, and I do appreciate what has been done and is being done here. I lack the time, skills, equipment etc., to do it myself so I can only hope someone will consider the lowly B 26.

Hello all,

I agree with Murph, the B-26 would be a most welcome addition to the game. I vaguely remember seeing a payware add-on for IL2 that claimed to include a flyable version of the B-26. Unfortunately, I do not remember the title, likely something to do with the Western front (European Theatre).

Hi!

So I agree for asking news about B26 , a very needed A/C for Europe Theatre (and a little bit for PTO)!!

It is I who is working on it. It is NOT abandoned; it, as with my other projects are on the back burner whilst I finish off the Whirlwind. I do NOT want to open a WIP thread here as I do NOT want to be nagged over it.

As for the website, sure, www.raf662.com - you won't find anything there as its in a private section; again, as I do not want to be nagged over it.

Same principle with the Defiant, I did not want to slap that up until I had the whirlwind completed.

Once the Whirlwind is finished, I will open the WIP thread, showing the step by step processes to date, and the current development level onward.

The Korean War B-26 was known as A-26 in WW2...

The Invader was not a B26 (Made by Martin). The Invader is the A26, B26 after 1948, and made by Douglas (Attack variant). While the planes look VERY similar, they are completely different A/C.
The A26 first saw service in 42 and was made to handle a similar role as the Mosquito. It, as was the Mossie, was later fitted with a glass nose and Norden Site for bombing.

The B26 carried a crew of 7 while the A26 was ment for a crew of 1 but carried 3.

Though I fly through the valley of death, I will fear no evil.....
For I am the meanest SOB in the valley!

Both are sorely needed in-game though...

Thanks very much Magpie- I am really looking forward to the Whirlwind, it's a plane I know very little about.
I'm content to wait for any news on the B 26, I just wanted to find out if it was on someone's to-do list.
Sorry if I opened a can of worms.

I can see being weary of nagging. Thanx for all the incredibly intense work you and all the other developers put into such projects. The B-26 in whatever version you pick will be great.

As for the Defiant, well, I guess it would be fun to be the gunner in that masochistic machine. It did make a good target tug, as well as an actual target heh heh. That turret set up looks difficult, but I'm sure you will find a way.

You could always make a Fairy Battle and put them together in an RAF suicide set.

Sorry, I just couldn't help it. Anything you make will be priceless, enjoyable, and greatly appreciated. thanx again.

Just had a trip to the States over Christmas & had a look through the Fantasy of Flight museum in Florida while there ...

A very nice musuem btw ... lots of photos taken including these of the B-26 housed there ... would liked to have taken more, but unfortunately there were too many other aircraft packed in tight with it at the time so these were the best I could do.

I spent a good 4 hours there ... Well worth a visit if your in the area (and no ... they're not paying me to say that) Smile

Oh ... & yes to this ... If this & the Defiant make it into the Sim .... a very happy person you'll have here!

Cheers

That is a B-26B I think, an early one at any rate. It was one of 4 recovered from an Alaskan marsh in the 70s. They were forced down in weather in early 42 while being ferried. They got one from most of the parts, as some were in pretty good shape. Kermit Weeks obtained it from David Tallichet a few yrs back. It's flyable, and I think they fly it every now and then, but it's an early short wing model that's pretty treacherous to fly sometimes.

These are a few shots of the Confederate Air forces B-26G (I think it's a G) at Harlingen back in 89 and 90 when I went to their huge air shows. It's a much later model with longer wings and more guns etc. It was destroyed in a ffatal crash a few yrs ago though. It was an incredible plane to watch, as they made these high speed camera passes by the crowd. I have many more, I just gotta scan the slides someday.

Enforcer,

Thx for the info ...

I do like the look of that "G"(?) model ... Thats one sexy looking aircraft ... & that low level high speed
pass looks like it would've been something to see.

Some nice shots there & handy for a skinning referrence if this aircraft does get into the sim.

Cheers.

And note how the windows on the cockpit seem to slide up. I have many more slides of this .....someplace. Some pretty close. I just gotta get all this stuff modified. I can always look for them if anyone ever needs some more views of hte early model. It had 4 gun sponsons on the under sides of the nose and a single .50 on one side of the glass nose piece really low. On this plane it looked kinda odd, as the gun was inside the nose but had no hole in the plexiglass to fire through. I guess that would be kinda expensive to have cut that in the plexiglass. So sad this machine was lost. It was so incredible to see this in the flesh. Really fast.
