Would wish to see this. Just thinking.. Water Physics?

As far as I see... the water modeled in IL-2 is terrible... we don't get any waves, flowing rivers, dams, or even decent effects from explosions happening on water.

I always wished there would be some "underwater" physics of some sort. :? Where submarines would actually submerge themselves rather than use two separate models.

I also always wished to see a large scale bomb strike the water that creates a large wave mass coming in to engulf the city on the coast Smile Or that airfield next to it.

Also if there are planes on the ground and the water level reaches there, maybe we could see something like the water washing them away to and fro.. or if submerged, the plane sustaining lots of water damage until (if) the tide settles back down. Or if you're inside as a pilot to have a 'drowning' effect. (which comes back to my "underwater physics" thing)

And also I've noticed that when you try to Taxi a seaplane towards a beach... it seems as if once you get from the water to land... its as if you hit a major BUMP, and your plane just "jumps" onto land (also causing damage). I was wondering if there could be made also a "smooth" transition between the two.
(This would be very useful if we ever get amphibious aircraft).

Also I was wondering if the amphibious troop transporters can be made into one model that can actually go from both land to sea, instead of use two different models. :?


~ Now I do realize that what I am talking about is on a very large scale, so therefore there is no way i am going to be rude and "request" this.... but I was simply thinking this is a big Issue in IL-2. And maybe one day, if modders are up for it. Try and take a crack at it? :?

just remember tha age of this game engine, actually now is 8 years old, we will have to wait untill SoW be released to see those effects.

Ok I understand. But what about the barrier between land and sea? If we plan to have amphibious planes.. should this problem be looked at?

It would also be cool to be able to get river boats and patrol boats up river but i think this might be something to do with the maps???

What I really found disappointsing is that rives can't flow down mountains. And as for that bump. Shouldn't that be easly fixed? I was curious and on time online on a winter map I taxied over rivers and lakes droped my bombs with the ten second time next to the target and taxied the hell out of there. We won the map. Then they asked how I did it if they were covering the area. I said were you at 12'. Meter's? (I never took off Smile )

This is controlled by a combination of ed_map_t.tga and map_c
The edge of water areas on map_c normally has a greyscale transition from black to white.
Somewhere in the greyscale range you create a barrier to ship movement.
I have not experimented much with this so am not sure where the limit is.

ed_map_t.tga also segregates ship and vehicle movement, useful for preventing vehicles crossing shallow water (greyscale) areas.

If a river is wide enough ships can navigate it but on narrow (normal width) rivers it seems to be not possible because the shallow water margins meet in the middle.

I improved the extent of navigation in the Scheldt Estuary by introducing ed_map_t.tga

Thanks for the reply but this is nothing that a non-modder can do for himself. The mappers would have to incooperate this to their map and we would all say how cool is this Wink
