Detritus of war
#1

Hi all:

Cujo_1970 put me onto this in another thread.

Something that I feel has been missing for a long time now is the "detritus of war". War produces an incredible amount of trash, waste, junk, scrap, whatever name you want to call it. Up to now our landscape has been most pristine until after the bombers get through with the attack. Look at an air base and you'll see all sorts of bits and pieces lying around. Granted, most of the stuff was pushed to central dumping places but still, it was not the age of enlightenment vis-a-vis environmental cleanup.

So, with this in mind, I put together a test static.ini file where I changed all the objects to their damaged/dead state. I then went through all the objects to see what was what. Well! Some of these objects have great damage models. Granted, not everything has damage models but there is more than enough to have fun with.

I took a few I liked and placed them together to see the effect. I feel I haven't scatched the surface yet with what can be done with what there is, but for now I'm liking the results.

I'd take some screen shots to show you, but I don't know how to get them to show up here. If anyone is interested let me know how and I'll post a couple.

Now, if there was only some way to get wrecked planes as objects (the dummy planes don't cut it)...

Great days all.

Sure, as a campaign maker, this is something I will use in my upcoming campaigns

if you have any that are quite good, I'd like to know their number and what they look like

Corsair:

Let me work on this for a bit. I found some stuff that needed to be made damaged/dead through different syntax - vehicles for instance. I also want to go through more thoroughly and make more than just a snap decision as to what I like or not.

Something you can do on your own is to save the static.ini file as something like "Dead_static.ini" and go through and change all the MeshLive lines. Here's an example:

Original text block for a wood cart
[buildings.House$cart_rus]
Title ToW_cart_rus
MeshLive 3do/Buildings/ToW/cart_rus/mono.sim
MeshDead 3do/Buildings/ToW/cart_rus/mono_dead.sim
AlignToLand 0
Body RockMiddle
Panzer 0.1

Altered for damage
[buildings.House$cart_rus]
Title ToW_cart_rus
MeshLive 3do/Buildings/ToW/cart_rus/mono_dead.sim
MeshDead 3do/Buildings/ToW/cart_rus/mono_dead.sim
AlignToLand 0
Body RockMiddle
Panzer 0.1

Do this using the 'Find and Replace' function in Notepad.

Something you'll notice here is that I have some objects from Madtoc (as the above is). I also have a lot of canonuk's stuff, Fisneaky's and others.

Also, again, how do I post screen shots?

Great days all.

I agree, people a rarely using some of the great damage objects effectively:

Some great things are possible:

CUJO_1970:

Great stuff! That's what I'm striving for but more related to airfields.

Corsair: If you look closely you'll see this is mostly, from what I can tell, objects from Madtoc. Here's the link to that line of objects:

And here's the link for the text to add to the static.ini file:

Some of these objects come from Madtoc in his thread:
