I have given up on the F84 (Big sorry to those of you who looked forward to it.) because I cannot form the fuselage correctly. I have been looking at documents of the XB70, "Aurora", and other aircraft that seem to have come before their time, and I stumbled upon the XFV, which I remembered from long ago.

I would like to ask, would the XFV be appropriate for an aircraft for the Korean War era addons. I know that it didn't see service, and I think it was first flown a few months after the Korean War ended. Could it be passed off as an experimental aircraft for IL2? We have the other "Luft' 46" style aircraft, like the Lerche, the Ta-183, and the Ta-152C. Could this be a "USAF '54" :lol: ?






I'm asking this because I want to model, I love contra-rotating props, and I love VTOL's.

Sorry if this causes a dispute, since that happens a lot with these kinds of topics.

shouldn't be a dispute...it's your time, so use it to model what you want. but if you're asking if this would be good for IL2, my opinion is no. that's no slight against you or that plane. just a simple, honest statement of how i percieve it to be. this is a WW2 air combat sim, and sure, it can be modded right enough for WW1 and or Korean war air combat because neither WW1 nor the Korean war was THAT far away from WW2...similar type piston engine planes(and some early type jets) were IN THE SAME GENERAL time frame. so it's not that much of a stretch to see or think of Fokkers flying over France or going the other way, F-51s and F-86s flying over Korean soil. however, again to my thinking... that's about as far as a WW2 sim "ought" to be pushed without creating a WHOLE new sim.

though the plane you are asking about was certainly antique enough for an early experiemental roughly around the Korean War time frame...it is only another one of those FANTASY planes that just keep distracting attention, energy and effort from what this sim really is...a WW2 air simulator...a WW2 "COMBAT" simulator. ---not an EXPERIMENTAL aircraft development simulator or a Vietnam Simulator on a Desert Storm simulator, etc, etc...if you get my drift. again, WW1 and Korean War are in the ballpark...but anything before or especially AFTER those timeframes just don't fit in to the flow.

it's like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. you might somehow get it in there, but it will never LOOK (or more importantly,) FEEL right. ---again, if you can get my drift.

when Oleg finally caved and let even those semi-authentic WW2 FANTASY planes into the game...look at how many people ACTUALLY fly them. hardly anybody does except the very young and the very new. almost none of the regular WW1/WW2/Korean War era players use those prototype/drawing board/experiemental types on a regular basis. ---if at all!

again, i'll be honest in what i think and i hope that's okay... we have a REAL need for actual "authentic" WW1/WW2/Korean War type planes that haven't been done or haven't been finished...important planes that actually made real history by serving in the military of whatever nation and fought in real, honest to God combat where brave soldiers lived and died at their controls.

---which is what this sim is all about. to me---and to most people that fly and love it.

if we wanted anything different, there are "other" sims out there that fill the bill perfectly...ie, Micrsosoft Flight Sim and several others....which are NOT about combat at all.

anyway, i know if i had your skills, i'd find me a real, honest to goodness WW1/2/Korean War aircraft from one of the hundreds that HAVEN'T been done, and pick one for all of my attention. finish her and see her get in the game to be flown and enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of grateful IL2 users. but that's just me.

again...it's your time, your effort, your skills. you have to do what you want and feel like with them.

Well, I can say that I have been working on a B-36. So far the only Korean War bomber being made.


The reason I push the idea of having these kinds of planes in IL2 is that it has the only suitable engine and code to see what a plane is really capable of. I wish to see The IL2: 1946 engine eventually made for an official Korean War combat simulator.

As much as I can't wait to fly that B-36 model of yours, I am fairly certain that it is definitely NOT a Korean war plane. I don't think it was ever used over there.

not to steal this thread, but no, it wasn't a Korean War aircraft... the B-36. but it "was" of the WW2/Korean War timeframe. The first prototype XB-36 flew on 8 August 1946. that's again in my opinion, close enough for cigars. it was a genuine "could have been" that fits in with IL21946 and if the war had drug out longer would have definitely been used to bomb Germany. also, it very well could have been used in Korea, even though it wasn't. (shrugs) to me, that's pretty darn close to the ballpark that i was speaking of earlier. i think that is one exception that would be a good hit. no fantasy plane or experiemental, but a real warhorse that actually "could" have been used in the mentioned combats. i'd go for it. my opinion only.

Even though I've only been modeling Luft' 46 models so far, I agree with you. I will keep on with the B-36.

I strongly disagree with your statement. It have been done to death that so many previosu simulation only contains historical aircraft with tiny or non-existing experimental and 'what if aircraft. I wouldn't call them fantasy because there is already possible way to determine how would have they flown? This modding in IL-2 1946 offers an opportunity for both world of historical and alternative history. There have been rapidly growing amount of people who truly desire and have great curiosity to see how would have these experimental and' what if' aircraft have affected WWII and how well would they have performed in combat mission?

That is why many of us truly desire to see both historical and alternative historical world together so there would be countless way to learn and experience unique things from it! Besides, I will quote the words from Oleg himself fo why he added several 'what if' aircraft to IL-2 1946:
