Should I bother installing Il-2's 4.09b1m patch now or ever?
#1

Let me explain...On most recent install of AAA Universal installer I didn't install the old official 4.09 patch but went straight from the last official 4.08 patch which ( I think ) was the right way to do it...but....now, every once in a while ,usually during a Campaign I'll get a "full stop" because ( apparently ) a "missing map",plus one or two other minor glitches ( I'll be sent back to repeat the second missionm over & over on some modded campaigns & on Mission Mate + the only new aircraft i can access are the Hurricane IID, Spit 1, Me410...I can download the improvement patch to get more...)
The som works beautifully as is...I don't want to screw it up just because of these relatively small problems, but if installing the old 4.09b1m patch wouldn't hurt....
Any advise? :?: Idea

Are you sure the campaigns were made for the same version you have switched on when playing?

Why don't you use the version switcher? Switch to 4.09 with it and see if you have the same issues with the campaigns.

Well let's see ...I think the ones giving me trouble are older campaigns that I just just installed...but not all of them..and of course many of the campaigns work just fine...6 of one half dozen of the other... :?

It is included in the UI 1.1 (also I think in version 1.0). Look in your game's main folder for an .exe file called "IL2VersionSwitcher"- click on it ( you may want to send a shortcut to your desktop as well ).
You'll get a little window with radio buttons for the various versions; 4.08 unmodded, 4.08 modded. 4.09 un. with or without 6DOF etc.,- just select the one you want and click "switch" and exit- it's that simple.
It allows you to use one installation of the game on you hard drive to switch between different versions for online compatibility.

In any case should I not bother with the install of Official  4.09 patch?

If you are speaking of the 4.09 beta I think it's integrated in the UI, I believe you just need to be 4.08 before installing it (the UI) and you should be good to go. Then make the shortcut to the launcher/switcher and that's all you need.

No James, don't bother with it- I don't think the official patch is mod compatible anyways. Use one of the 4.09 versions in the mod version switcher.

Will back up everything ( as usual at these moments) & give switcher a try! Big Grin

Switcher seemed trouble free...can I ask one last question? Since I am all modded up I put it on the
4.09b1Modwith 6DOF( which works well with the TrackIR that I have...)Is this my best choice...should I ever bother to change to one of the other choices? I hardly ever play on line...

I never use anything but 4.09 with 6DOF, but if I needed to switch to an unmodded version of 4.08 for compatibility with someone else's server online, I'd just use the switcher.
I've needed to do so on occasion, so it's nice to have.
