Maps / Aircraft Type Database (?)
#1

Hi neighbours,

when I'm creating a mission I try to be as accurate as possible concerning aircraft types populating the mission for the projected time frame. It might be funny to have a Gloster Meteor attacking a Hs-123 above a New Guinea airfield in 1943. But that's not what I want to model.

For instance, I would like to create missions in the PTO, to be able to use Japanese fighter planes - or fight against them. But I'm lacking the historical background for that.

It always requires a lot of research work to find out what actually would be realistic to model. A database where such a knowledge is accumulated - maybe even with group/squadron information - would drastically reduce the time required for mission modeling. I have seen an Excel sheet two or three years ago, where someone complied such info for the maps which were available in Il-2 at that time.

Does anybody know about such a database / compilation, and where to find it?

If not - shouldn't we start to compile something like that? That might be a very helpful resource to have. Unfortunately currently my time is very limited, otherwise I would have volunteered to compile such a data collection, but possibly someone else does?

Best greetings and wishes,
Yours
chanklaus!

There is an Excel sheet available for the ETO that was created by Yogy. It shows which plane types where used in different battles.

You can download it from Yogy's homepage:

Many thanks Juri - that's exactly what I was looking for. And I guess that table is what I've mentioned in my post.

Something like that I would like to see for PTO and all those other maps, especially those created here from AAA members.

A database like Yogy's for all maps in the game would be a great help for mission builders, but I think it will require a lot of research.

We do not actually need one single person to do all the research. If someone is willing to share his knowledge about aircraft types, even if it's for just one or two maps here in this thread, even if he has to admit that it might not be complete... If enough people would do that, we would all profit enormously, and eventually end up with a knowledge base that we then could press into such an Excel file.

The UberQuick Mission Generator had an aircraft selection screen which sorted aircraft types by country/year/type of engine/nos. of engines. I think it also integrated with IL-2 modded, but cant remember how. You had to edit some of the files to add the new aircraft in.

This is a typical listing from the aircraft.ini file.
I think the numbers are code for the country and types etc
So you can just add lines for moddded aircraft.
Its also possible to add maps. Again I cant remember how.

Here is an Excel sheet with plane service dates that might be useful.

An additional problem occurs when building a mission when you try and use the correct squadron for a plane only to find out that the specific squadron you need to make it historically correct, is not included within those available skins for selection.
