Mod Request Spitfire PR XI

Spitfire PR XI

Supermarine Spitfire PR.Mk XI The PR Mk XI was produced in greater numbers than any other PR variant, with over 470 produced in total. It was based around the Mk IX fuselage, but with the extra fuselage fuel tanks of the standard PR variants as well and wing mounted tanks. It first flew on 21 November 1942, and entered service in the summer of 1943.

The PR Mk XI used a universal camera installation, which allowed the cameras to be easily swapped. This allowed a much wider variety of cameras to be used. Common variants included two F.52 cameras with a 36in focal length, two F.8s (20in), one F.52 (20in) and two F.24 (14in) combined with one F.24 (14in or 8in) in an oblique position. Some also carried a 5 inch F.24 just behind the wheel well for low to medium level tactical reconnaissance.

Anyone interested on this one?

Would be nice to have it in game.

Cheers!

Shouldnt be too hard if someone wanted to put it in the game - base it om the MkVIII, 3d modelling to remove the cannon, change the nose profile, change the canopy, put the blisters on the nose and the cameras under the fuse....

But how much value would it have other than as an ai aircraft to use for atmosphere?
Probably just as easy to use a MkIX, change its skin and assign the mission to a FR.IX than a PR.XI. Wouldnt be entirely historically accurate, but close enough?
Just my two cents.

That all said, I'd love to just go cruising in a Mk.XI, low level PR missions would be quite fun too...

I'd love to see the PR versions ingame... there's only so much a skin can do alone.

It'd also be great if there was some way to actually make it 'take photos' rather than fire guns/drop ordnance, even if it doesn't actually record images the requirement for a straight-and-level run for a set amount of time over a set area could make for some interesting missions under threat of high-level (possibly rocket) interceptors.

If it could be made to actually take photos then, yeah it would be worth while for large campaigns etc. but if not then a skinned PR Spitfire, un-armed set with a "recon" waypoint should really be enough.

In saying that if someone wanted to spend time on it then I'd be the last person to say no to another variant of the Spitfire - more the merrier Smile

As Shifty say's, the more the merrier, however unless there could be a way to 'see' what the Spit see's it won't be worth it.
Just skin the MkI and go with no ammo

or use a MkVIII with no ammo

i could probably put the Mk I wings on a Mk IX if that would be useful?
