Why Can't the Infantry Walk on Water?

I would really like you to have the map mate but the truth is i really havent a clue as to what i'm doing, this is my first attempt at re-texturing and in the process of texturing the Pacific islands map i buggered up the online 8 map which is the same

Hi Ziggy-22,

Nice map! Most people would probably rather switch from northern Europe to the Tropics and not the other way around, but, to borrow a common phrase, "I love what you've done with the place!"
So what is this mission about, that you are building this new map for? It looks pretty interesting with the Me-262 and all the radar installations.
By the way, how can I get the static camera to work? All the tutorials that I have seen on it so far seem to say that one only needs to put the camera at a specific place and height on the map in FMB and then only press Ctrl F2 to view the mission from the static camera's perspective. Never worked for me though. Somehow, nothing happens when I press Ctrl F2. Is there a way to assign a different key to the static camera? I couldn't find it in the Controls section, when in-game.
Any thoughts?

Thanks again,

RB

Hello,

Here is another screen shot from my Fw-190 torpedo campaign under construction.

Title could be either "RAF-group-photo," or "RAF men's choir, Sgt. Smith conducting."

Enjoy,

RB

P.S. By now, this is not really about infantry on water anymore. Do we need to move this to another thread or section?

Hi Bohr-r

You're right this topic has gone way off track, not sure if we need to move it. Your static camera should work, when you place it do you get a little white camera icon on your map? and when you press ctrl + f2 sometimes it scrolls through the enemy aircraft first, not sure if you can assign different keys for it, i had a look but cant find anything either. Another inventive screenshot i see but i noticed you've got jagged edges on the planes wings have you got antialiasing settings on, they should cure that but you might get a lapse in performance. My mission is a fictional one set in 1946 with the Germans using the islands as a v-2 rocket base to hit allied positions, basically its a dog fight, defending against low level attacks on the instalations

heres a p51 looking for trouble

Hello Ziggy-22,

Nice screen shots! That Mustang looks great. What skin is that?

Thanks for the advice on the antialiasing. How do I turn that on? I couldn't find it in the in-game settings under "hardware". Do I need to look for it in other game files, such as conf.ini, or perhaps in my graphics card settings?

In regard to the static camera, yes, I do get the little white camera icon in FMB. However, when I start the mission and press Crtl F2, nothing happens. I set up a little test mission with no aircraft in it at all, just ground objects and a static camera. When I start the mission, I only get a light blue surface and a bit of sky, but can't change perspective by moving the mouse.

Finally, in order to get this thread back on topic, I was wondering if you would be interested in testing the first mission of my Fw-190 torpedo campaign. Perhaps, you could check whether the missing s-boat crew turns up on your set?
If you are interested, I could email you the mission file.

Lastly, here are a few more screen shots from my campaign under construction.

Regards,

RB

Hi Bohr-r
Well you certainly made a mess of that beaufighter, the mustang skin is called six shooter by F22 Raptor and is available here in the skin section, you'll find your antialiasing settings in your graphic card settings are you using a nvidea card?

Thats a strange problem you're having with your static camera i wonder if it is also linked to the invisible infantry problem, you might have a glitch there somewhere to do with your visuals! Do you have any other problems with graphics?

I would love to have a look at and test your mission for you, i'll pm you my e-mail address and look forward to it.

Hi Bohr-r

Thanks for sending me your mission it was good fun and a good story line, i think you did very well, there is just enough going on with a bit of moving eye candy in the way of ships and convoys to bring it alive and its just about the right flying distance to the mission. When you start to see the shells drop in the sea from the destroyer it gives you a sence of urgency to get to the sub before it gets hit and the mission is failed, i think its mission accomplished!

As for the vanishing infantry, well have a look at the screen shot below! yep! no infantry, they vanish on my map also, so at least you now know its not a graphics issue with your pc, i tried them on several maps and they just dont want to play!! Now i think these particular figures were modded and are not origanal so that might have something to do with it as the origanal figures stay where they are, also the infanrty mod figures stay there. The ones that you are using were not from the infantry mod either, now this is only a stab in the dark but i'm trying to narrow it down a bit. We might get to the bottom of this eventually.

Hi Ziggy-22,

Thanks for testing my mission. Glad you liked it. In order to find out what is going on with the invisible ship crews, I will try to place figures from the standard infantry mod on these ships and check if they appear in game. I initially chose the non-standard figures because they had darker uniforms, which seemed to be closer to actual German navy apparel for submarine and/or s-boat crews.
However, if the standard figures don't appear either, I will try to clone the ones I want, as per your instructions, and check whether they will show up in-game.
By the way, this is really a rookie question, but I can't seem to find the settings for my graphics card to enable anti-aliasing. Where would that be located?

Thanks,

RB

Hello Ziggy-22,

I tested the mission again today and the strangest thing happened. First, I added some regular infantry figures to the mission, just to see if they would show up. When I played the mission, this is what I saw.

Then I deleted the extra figures (in khaki) and played the mission again. Here are the results.

and

I suggest, if you have the time, test my mission again, after opening and closing it a few times in FMB. Perhaps the infantry will appear on board their ships on your machine, too, eventually.

Please let me know how it goes on your machine.

Thanks,

RB

Hi Bohr-r

I've always used nvidea cards and so i only know about these, they have their own control panel which can be found either under ' control panel' (start/control panel) or here is a little icon in the bottom right of the screen.

Thats very strange with the infantry, i will give that a go and see what happens, got to go away over easter so will be a day or so but will keep you posted.

Hi Ziggy-22,

Happy Easter! Thanks for your suggestion about where to find the graphic card settings. I think, I already found mine. I have an ATI-Radeon X600/X550. The settings panel is called "Catalyst Control Center" and I found it under "All Programs." I set the anti-aliasing to maximum and unclicked the box for "allow the application to control settings" or so. Now, when in-game, I don't see aircraft wings with zigzag edges anymore. I will post some screen shots later.
On another note, I am about to finish a trial version of my Fw-190 torpedo campaign. It is a total of 15 missions. I would like to post the campaign on this website to make it available to others. However, before I do that, I would like to get some feedback from other IL-2 players, especially in regard to inconsistencies or problems that may appear, but that did not come up on my machine. Would you be interested in testing the campaign?

Regards,

RB

Hi Bohr-r

I tested the infantry again and got the same results as you, putting in regular infantry and then deleting hem again seems to encourage the crew men to stay so it must be a mod conflict! I would be happy to test your campaign for you, just e-mail it to me and i'll get playing, i'll pm you the results when im done but i think i'm going to enjoy this

regards ziggy
