Mapping Madness!! China and Vietnam
#31

You will have to read about the file set up in Kevin P's tutorial at the beginning.

One important file is this file route

IL2 1946 main file directory> MAPS ( a new folder in the main game folder directory ad that in yourself)>
The map folder you are working on Timor

This allows you to save any changes made in the map making fmb and then copy and paste the changes into the map folder
of Mods>Mapmods>Maps>Timor.

Hope that makes sense.

C.Texan when I have a couple of hours to spare I'll consider your project you want can you put up a specific area.

Well, I often thought that mapmaking for IL-2 must be a very rewarding (and artistic) pursuit.

So I am going to play around and see if I can get the knack of it. I have already tested the Full FMB a bit. Thanks Farang, both for your skill and your generosity! Big Grin

And I really second that idea of you Farang, doing some more maps, of other theatres of war, for us less knowledgeable to work on. You can become the Godfather of mapmaking... 8)

PS. South Vietnam and Kunming loaded fine. No problems!

For those interested in Ceylon and Southern India the link is now up. Enjoy.

All new map links on page two of this thread.

I'll have to adjust a few of the others. Damn small islands cut directly in half and infinity looks very patchy on some maps.

I'll adjust Mymap_c over the next day or two for those ones.

I'll put up China Shanghai and Nanking on Monday.

I am keen for China/Formosa and China/NorthVietnam andChinaHankow(originally done by Agracier) if anyone specifically wants those maps for any reason I'll put them up but only on request but not Hankow.

Also to if you want the grey picture and colour pictures of any of these maps let me know as well.

Also please let me now if anyone is having loading problems.

They all loaded perfectly for me first time.

Kevin P can tell you about my first loading problems with his Manam Island map.

I don't know if you take requests for maps (for others to populate and texture) but what about this one? The so called Polish corridor up at the Baltic Sea:

It fills a gap in IL-2, as it can be used for both for the invasion of Poland in 1939, and for Eastern Front fighting in 1944-45. (And I wouldn't mind populating it myself, as long as the map isn't too big.)

Just an idea. If your mapping madness spree continues...

I'm keen over a short peroid of time to have around 15 maps available to the community.

Some can be done as requests.

Here in the land of smiles downloading from the net is free I do not get huge downloading bills as some countries have. Just takes a bit of time downloading the SRMT data and uploading to mediafire.

Requests and other map ideas are fine for this thread.

I'll check out the SRTM site on Monday

So which one of these are the smallest, and which ones are really big?
Woohoo! Peter!
Welcome to the mapMod mads society!
Now you dont had to worry what to do next autumn.

Kirby, I got your PM and here are two map requests.
One is of the state of Moravia in the east end of Czech Republic. You can see it would also have to include Zilinia, Slovakia which is on the IL2 Slovakia Map (for the east end of map) and on the west end of map it would include Brno.
I'd rather not include a big city like Prague and the state of Bohemia. I looked at the NASA SRTMs and it doesn't include just one square for this particular area. Is it possible to make a map of different SRTM areas and then cut it down to a smaller size for my requested area?

I drew a box around the minimum area needed.

MORAVIA, Czech Republic

Another request is the Caucasus (area east of the IL2 Kuban map).
CAUCASUS, Russia

Poltava, your request for the Polish corridor is a good one. I always thought that the IL2 Kurland map should have included Koenigsburg and Danzig.

Poltava,

I've downloaded the SRMT dem's that I need for your project will look at that in a day or so. I'll post a screenie up of the colour map before I make the map to see if it meets your needs.

C.Texan I'll get going on the SRMT data with your project after I have uploaded

China Shanghai and Nanking tonight.

I've thought of China/Hong Kong area and an area West of Hankow. I have a China Plan for 1941.

Also another version of SouthVietnam but including all of Cambodia.

I think Mission Bug was interested in this area.

For those interested another map up tonight on the download links page 2.

Farang!!!

That sounds WONDERFUL! You ARE the Godfather of mapmaking! Big Grin

I have only one request: don't make it too big! Or I won't cope... I rather that you either crop it or use a smaller scale. The size of the Darwin map seems to be ideal for a newbie like me.

+1 It is big enough to get the right feeling. And it does not take ages to populate.
Only 2 weeks, be sure!

China Shanghai and Nanking is up for download.
This is a smallish map but with the two cities it would be a heavily poulated map.

Poltava a may do a couple of versions of your area.

C.Texan downloading your data areas tonight.

Great! Will have a peek at Shanghai-Nanking ASAP.

Also: really looking forward to seeing the "Polish Corridor" come alive! Making several variants (not least size-wise) sounds like a good idea.

I hope this is what you are looking for.

I really had to compare your map and microdem alot just to make sure.

I looked at the coast line alot on your map and microdem.

Here's a starter let me know if it looks good to you.

Scale is 75 pixals

WOW! This is just right! And if I manage to poulate this one, we will have a map over most of Poland, and parts of neighbouring countries.

So keep this one. Because this is a map that IL-2 REALLY needs! So keep it! Please! This is also a map that would fit perfectly for the "Canvas Knights" boys, as it shows the area of the Eastern Front that saw most of the action during WW1.

But could you *also* make a SMALL outtake, a portion of this one, for me to get started on? Approximately this area:

Is this possible? Two variants?

But please: make the big one available for download as soon as you have time. I am very curious to take a first peek!
