Just so everyone knows.

There is a simple way to make the 409 official "work" with 1.1 and 1.2. One of the 1.2 Beta members figured it out but ....

BUT ....

It's not all that simple, yes the new buttons, but the buttons is only one small fraction of the items that need to be addressed.

For instance, in 1.2 Zuti's MDF (Moving DogFight) mod is included. Now question, how much of what Zuti wrote is 100% compatible with 409. Here is another, we have the Spit MKXIV which required modifications to the core classes specifically dealing with radiators. Same applies to the four new Mustangs in 1.2 which required some modification to core classes as well.

In 409 we know from the readme the AI changed, the GUI changed. This alone impacts Fireballs and Zutis mods. In 409 some of the aircraft were tweaked to perform at higher altitudes and this means other code was added that impacts what's been done by modders everywhere.

Basically, how much of what was added by modders for 1.2 is 100% compatible with the official 409?

Personally I don't know the full impact but I would wager that it's not as simple as drop in a new buttons file.

My suggestion is do NOT mod the 4.09m unless we find a way to lock the FM, DM and WM data. The mods do enhance greatly the quality of IL2. But it has also ruined the online community to some degrees. You can always find some kinds of illegal mod users online. In my opinion, mods are more suitable for offline play. If you (AAA) want to make 4.09 mod friendly, please only modify the offline part. Thank you.

S!

At least there is no confusion between 4.08m and 4.09m anymore, just 4.09m to tinker with. Is it appropriate to ask if I can get a "no-DVD.exe" for the 4.09m somewhere. It is the damn SecuROM causing my game not to work in Windows 7. With the "DVD saver exe" it works just fine..Thanks a lot in advance.

my game now has a very strange setup- I turned the game to 4.08 mods off, and installed 4.09m. now i can fly 4.09, and switch back to modded version, but when i want to fly 4.09m i have to reinstall it.

Totaly disagree.. The online game is far from 'ruined'.. In fact, the modded game has many servers and participants online, lets not go down that muck slinging road.. we have been there and delt with it many months ago.

There are so many mods that it takes ages to go thru them all to see which ones are for you Sad I prefer now a few selected ones which give immersion and realism, like Zorin's Ordnance packs and HolyGrail & Potenz effects. I am quite reluctant to add more planes as there is a lot to fix in the existing ones already etc. For me modding has brought IL2 a new life. Sure there will always be cheaters, but if you fly long enough you tend to spot them. IMO the online community is pretty good in rooting these individuals out as they do not want these cheaters to spoil the experience. So no mud sling to on or offline, both are needed Smile

To point out one fact

As of today, there is not difference between offline and online as far as the game is concerned.

Well, the easiest way to discover exactly what has been changed between 4.09b1 and 4.09 or 4.08 and 4.09 would be to create separate installations of each version, extract everything from .sfs files, and then use Winmerge folder compare to see what files (and what lines in each file) have changed. You'd have to un-hash the java files first, obviously, or it wouldn't make much sense. http://winmerge.org/ Absolute gem, that program, sound like it would make your life a lot easier, Monguse. Plus, it's free, so why the hell not? Smile

same problem here. Cry

Frankly, I'm just going to wait and see what the AAA community can do before patching up.
