Gunner PK'd = pilot killed
#1

Anyone here fly bombers and move to the gunners position when under attack? Well if the gunner you are using gets PK'd you lose control of the aircraft. I am of the opinion that if I am the pilot of the aircraft and I move to the gunners seat my pilot does not actually move or swap places with a gunner, I just see the view from that gun position and have control of the gun therefore if the gunner gets PK'd then surely as the pilot I should lose the ability to view from that position and the gunner should be dead so at that moment I still have control of the aircraft and can still fly by going back to my own cockpit view.

Is that something that is possible with a mod?

Would it interest anyone?

it [censored] my mind, when i want to defend own plane from fighter, autopilot starts fly in wrong direction and starts rotate so its very difficult to shoot accurately...

I think this would be impossible

To the game / computer you are the "player" if you die, you die

I suppose the AI pilot could keep flying .. however what purpose would that serve ?

He means if you are in the gunner position and get killed, you would revert back to the pilot.. in real life if a gunner is killed the plane will still be flown by the pilot, everything doesn't stop because a crew member becomes a casualty.. It's entirely relevant and would be a good move to make this work.

gents, could i remind you not to swear on the forums -- young kids use it too and at anyrate, it makes the forums a generally more pleasant place to browse.

Annoying the annoying, so you don't have to.

I understand the game "sees" you as dead but it would cool if, as in some plane mods you can hit shift+F1 to switch to the co-pilots seat, that you could do that if the pilot is killed and you could take over from the co-pilots position.

I just found this out myself and was wondering if someone else experienced the same thing. I would think that this is something to fix with a small patch, not a mod... ok, considering the "speed" at which patches are released... forget it...
The funny thing is: Your screen goes black. You can still (i.e., in a B29) SWITCH between the different positions, but the other gunners are just as dead as you are, including the pilot. It seems like it was planned to let you switch to a "not-yet-dead" position but was then forgotten. Sad thing to forget... it happens very often that one out of eight crew members gets killed. Also, this means that you don't need to cripple the plane, you just need to kill that one (say) ventral gunner...

I think you guys don't understand quite what I am trying to get across .. think of it as a computer programming problem

Game/Computer ID's you as a particular player entity .. while you can switch positions, you can only be one identity / entity to the game / computer at a time .. once data says you are dead, it can not make you alive again to switch back to another position .. all you can do is re-plane in dogfight, or re-load mission in co-op and in SinglePlay

basicly you are asking for a hack/mod where you could instantly come back *alive*(data associated with the plane you are in continues) from the *dead* (where data ends in association with the plane you were in) to make the switch from dead gunner to alive pilot ..

even if it was achievable, which I doubt because it's so basic to the IL-2 code that you are dead until re-plane or mission reset .. it would be a very dangerous hack that might allow cheats to find a way to come alive instantly when they die at any time

As far as AI pilot not flying *right* so that you can have easier time shooting enemy as gunner .. your thinking on this is wrong kind boy, IMO, the AI pilot SHOULD be taking evasive actions to avoid enemy fire ... not holding steady for you.

A bomber by itself yes, you would want the pilot to take evasive action, and you as the gunner would be telling him which way to break/corkscrew etc.. but not in a box formation of bombers, each relying on other aircraft to maintain formation and cover all arcs..
Can you imagine the drama if a bomber formation started to throw itself all over the sky when attacked? There would be aircraft smashing into each other all over the place.. combat discipline has to be maintained..

So it would be impossible for the game to read is as 'gunner dead' rather than player occupying gunners position is dead and therefore the gunner is dead but the pilot is ok ?
