Will 1.2 work on 1.1 servers?
#1

Excuse me if this has been asked but there are so many threads in which it could be buried.

So, a simple clear Topic title.

Reason for asking? The AAA mods/4.08m/4.09b1 and 4.09m whole scenario is already splitting the server-supply side (HL) into many options including the possibilty of 1.1s not upgrading to 1.2. I don't want to go to 1.2 if it means I can't also continue on 1.1 servers.

Yes, it does work, and vice versa, as long as the servers are not running CRT=2. U.I. 1.1 and 1.2 are, after all, both the same game version: 4.09b1m.

There are, however, some other potential glitches:

1. Server and clients must have the same ZUTI DSMod version, (or both have that mod disabled) The added wrinkle here is that U.I. 1.2 uses ZUTI DSMod v0.8 RC3.5, and ZUTI has release his final version ZUTI DSMod v0.8 (no RC#)

2. If the server puts an aircraft on the map which the player does not have, anyone flying that aircraft will be invisible to that player.

just put a - in front of zuti mod so it looks like -01_Zuti_DSMod_v0.8_RC3.5

Most servers in hl have it disabled

Thanks for your quick replies guys.

Assuming there are no other issues, do AAA intend to declare a position so as to provide a common stable basis for running their mods?

e.g. the Zuti thing. Presumably from what you say 1.2 incorporates "ZUTI DSMod v0.8 RC3.5" (whatever that is) so why would Zuti's final version be of concern? Presumably the 1.2 servers are in line? Is it something some people are likely to install over the top of 1.2? And why would a server put an aircraft on the map that is not in 1.2? Are some people randomly adding other mods?

This is always the problem with unofficial mods, they spawn add-ons and changes like Topsy. It would be good for AAA to take an 'official' position, declaring a 'constant' version, and ask for servers to declare it.

AAA have put themselves very popularly in the position of being a community 'centre of excellence' and if the community is to avoid being split by a myriad of mixed add-ons it would be nice if AAA could ask servers to implement their mods responsibly so that we don't end up with a dogs breakfast. It looks as though Warbirds of Prey are doing just that and declaring very clearly what they are doing, limiting their mods to 1.2 with CRT=2 implemented. It would be nice to see a definition on HL servers like "AAA Vanilla 1.2" or "AAA 1.2 CRT=2" so we know what we are looking at.

Many thanks again though guys, I'll watch how the servers develop before I install 1.2.

ZUTI's final version was released over 3 months ago and is already in widespread use. Now out comes U.I.1.2 with an older version, which is not compatible with the final version. A server trying to be 1.2 compliant is going to use RC3.5, but there are several version out there in use. It's a matter of advertising which is in use. I would go with peybolman's advice, and keep it disabled unless required by the server.

I was thinking of the case of a 1.2 server and a 1.1 client, but of course people may add other mods not in 1.2., like Peter D's new MiG and Sabre. The U.I. may be a standard, but it is not comprehensive.

The zuti mod is moving dogfight.

i.e. moving Ai in a dogfight server, the best parts of COOP and Dogfight mixed together.

My advise is to get the final (http://www.352ndfg.com/zuti/Zuti_DSMod_v0.8.exe) it doesn't have all the bugs the RC3.5 (beta) has.

This is getting really messy.

There's no point in my getting Zuti's latest version if it won't run with 1.2

If I disable Zuti's mod I then have to re-enable it if I find a server that needs it and how would I know?

Remember the good old days when we all ran the same version?

Looks like I'll be sticking with Warbirds of Prey who are at least excercising some configuration management and the 4.09m servers like Warclouds 4.09m and by.sturmovik.de

Just have to hope there are some more out there.
