Can I tranfer old STDfolder & SAS & AAA planes/Maps
#1

I've pretty much given up on 4.09 combination with 1.2 ( although I might give it another try..I do have it separately loaded so I can try out new planes) no real need for it as far as I can see. I do have a successful1.2 install with exception of cockpit openings on 109...paired with newest SAS install & buttons( alll working as of this morning...).I have saved my old 1.1/SAS version in whicjh I have nearly every AAA & SAS plane loaded & working.Now as you might imagine I am not looking forward to reloading all of these into the 1.2 individually...no indeed.Is there any reason I can't simply paste all the SAS planes from 1.1 install into 1.2 and then put the 1.1( working) 1.1 STD files(plane,weapons,air) in place of the new 1.2 files? Ditto maps? I do not want to screw up this more or less flawless install...which of course I saved.... :???:
It would save soooooo much time! Big Grin

Your 1.1 STD folder is going to contain an air.ini that lacks any new 1.2 aircrraft, same for plane_ru.properties and weapons_ru.properties. It will also have a SAS buttons, which may or may not be up to date.

Your 1.1. MapMods folder is not going to have the new 1.2 maps, and the all.ini in there won't have the load.ini entries for them, but running insert.bat again ought to fix that...maybe...

So you will have to spend some time checking and fixing all that stuff, plus anything else I haven't thought of or don't know about, with the ever present possibility of missing something or making a mistake.

So these are new planes that weren't available before in the 1.2?I thought I'd gotten most of them .

I don't know, to be honest. If you're sure you already had all of the new 1.2 planes, then...

I might try on one of the various copies of 1.2...stay tuned..Its probably Maps & objects I want to do individually to get them right!

I assume you will be trying to load the Canon English Channel Map on to your UI 1.2 version. Please let me know how you do/did it, if it works for you.

sounds like it would be simpler to add 1.1 to 1.2 rather than the other way around..

try the Comparator utility i put up yesterday..

get it to compare the 1.1 and 1.2...(best to make a copy of the one you are going to be adding to)
the copy into it the missing files
then copy the newer files
then manually using the 'Swiftcompare' utility compare and copy the air.ini/planes_ru/waepons_ru/maps all.ini

to answer the original question-NO

to achieve this, you will have a little bit more work to do-and go get WinMerge for the complicated bit;

here is quick guide on how to add "old" stuff that is not packed into UI1.2;

before you start, back up all the ini files and the dat files in the STD dir as well as the all.ini from the MapMods folder;

first of all, do a clean install of UI1.2 as advised in the readme
get 1.1.1 and then install 1.2 over it;
clean up the resulting MOD directory as per install instructions-you have
finished the first third of the process now;
now, look into the newly created STD dir within the clean 1.2 folder;
you will see that several ini and dat files have been created, but not all you will need finally;
now use winmerge to compare the backed up 1.1.1 ini files with the new 1.2 ini files;
add the 1.2 stuff that is no in the 1.1.1 ini files, BUT do not apply this procedure
to the air.ini and the all ini-for these two work the other way round;
using winmerge, paste all stuff from 1.1.1 into the 1.2 files;

now, just drop whichever additional mods you would like to add from your old install;

finally, just drop the whole newly created merged 1.1.1 / 1.2 MODS dir into the game.
this procedure took me the better part of 2 hours, with most of the time used on copying the files around;

but it works Smile

thanks to the whole team for the great work that UI1.2 is Smile

Ok along the same lines : can I replace MapMods folder with one that is already complete( more or less?)

Yes-you can! Smile

you just need to make sure that you have the various ini files set up for the maps you want to add;

for example, I wanted to keep the new UK Map from Canon from my previous install;
all I did was add the appropriate lines to the all.ini and then go through the other ini files mentioned using WinMerge;
its a little bit complicated and tedious, but it works Smile

Here's what I tried : I saved the "new" 1.2 Mapmods folder & removed it from the 1.2 install,then I put my "old" 1.1 Mapmods folder in its place...good idea: didn;t seem to work.... :oops:
I'm beginning to believe that the only way to do these things is one at a time.... :???:

your idea was not that bad-but I did it the other way round Smile
just have a look which maps from your old install are missing in 1.2, copy them
over to the 1.2 MapMods and add the appropriate line in the all.ini;
BUT make sure that you are not missing any stuff in the static.ini and other ini files
in the STD dir that might be involved;
for example, my old mapmods dir contained several readme files for the various maps
I have added over the time, just consult these for the stuff you might need to add in the inis.
alternatively, just merge the new inis with the backed up ones from the old install;
patience and a basic understanding how the adding of certain mods work are the key here Smile

but feel free to ask Smile thats what a community is there for.....

Before I got this post I went to the now-back-again SAS site & finally had a chance to read the complete install instructios om the 2.1 over mods install ( I hadn't had these before...) they ststed I could install 4.09 over my old complete install & then use the 2.1 with newest 2.4 buttons & changes in STD etc. & all would be well.After one false start IT DID ALL WORK!!!
I can still do a clean install with 4.09 ,AAA 1.2 & 1.2.5 when it comes out & then perhaps import all the aircraft ,maps effects I want plus STD then uses SAS install & get the best of all worlds...but until then I have a working version with everything :my 'old" completely modded Il-2 warts & all,new 4.09 planes,& SAS install & nearly everything is up & operating!
