[WIP] Map Hejaz - Saudi Arabia
#1

Here is a link for a new map in progress. It features the western areas of present day Saudi Arabia, previously named the Kingdom of the Hejaz and the Emirate of Ha'il. It is a desert map obviously, and contains very few towns and roads. Since Saudi conjures up a mental image not only of a sea of sand but also a sea of oil, I've added a few oilfields to the map, even though these are not in a correct geographical location, the oil fields being in the eastern part of the country, off-map. But it was too good to pass up, for oil fields are wonderful targets - either to protect or attack and set alight.

Textures are all new 1024 and were taken from Google earth images not far from the actual map area.

Coastal water texture is by Bombsaway - resident water texture expert - and adds that extra little touch that so makes or breaks the atmosphere of a map. Many thanks for his assistance.

The Hejaz was not involved in any military operations in WWII (as opposed to the Great War) so the map should be regarded as a place to fly for fun, for dogfighting or for use in alternate history scenarios. One can envisage a thrust south into Saudi after a German take-over of Egypt and the Suez Canal for instance, or an Italian offensive to the north after advancing into the Sudan from Abyssinia. Other possibilities are an Israeli strike in the post-war world. Your imagination is the limit as the saying goes.

You will most emphatically need the dlv_Egypt Objects mod and the objects from Cannons Channel map as well. Please be sure that you have these installed before trying to save and/or fly a mission.

Here is the download link. Install instructions are included.

Here are a few images to give an idea of the map. These were rather hastily taken and do not do really show the desert landscape as it should be.

Good evening,
d/loaded your latest work of art, it loads fine, but I can't save missions in the FMB (I wanted to take the jeep for a stroll in the desert... :x )
Here is what I get from the shift & tab command:
INTERNAL ERROR: Can't open file '3do/Tree/Yellow/Live.sim'
WARNING: object '3do/Tree/Yellow/Live.sim' of class 'SIM' not loaded
INTERNAL ERROR: Meshobj: Can't load/SIM 3do/Tree/Yellow/Live.sim
I am obviously missing something or what... Any clues most welcome!

Oh yes ... that's from fabianfreds Trees and Things. It should be standard installed with UP2.0 and therefor probably with HSFX as well (though I don't have that myself).

In older installs it is often called OBJECTS_ffb. That is in any case how I have it in my old UI install.

You should be able to install the objects from the Thailand map:

I haven't made the plunge with either UP or HSFX but I have the latest UI. What do I need to run this map?

Well, dlv_Egypt Objects mod, Cannon's Channel Objects and also Fabianfreds objects. The last mod I have given a link to in a posting above.

Here is a link for the Egypt objects:

Since you have the latest UI, then you should have lal-Rones Fortification mods (which I include just to be thorough - this is normally a standard install).

Agracier.

Thanks you for this new contribution. Big Grin

Have not tried yet, downloading now, but I am used already to your excellent work

If the comunity send modders to the war, you would be for sure in the first line. Smile

Again thanks a lot, and happy going.

P.S. Wondering how long would be the first line. My memory refuses to make a count

And that would be the end of any new maps ... to put me to use think rear echelon, think remote guided weaponry, think arm-chair general ... ha ha
