Damaging parts..?
#1

Is it possible to mod such thing to Il-2 as damaging parts? I mean that if you fly trough a cloud of parts (from an airplane you jut shot down) you would get some damage. The dogfights would be much more tactical as you couldn't just fly trough all the shrapnel and parts.

That's something which I always wondered about... even an old game like DID F22 ADF was able to model damage by exploding airplanes, oil tanks etc, why is this part missing in IL2??

I would greatly welcome any effort in this direction! Unfortunately, I don't know java... otherwise I would consider trying it myself...

I don't know....i'm pretty sure i've been damaged by exploding parts from an airplane I just shot down...maybe this is just from when they actually explode, rather than say shooting an elevator off or something.

I know there were accounts of pilots getting hit by the released canopy of the pilot bailing out of the fighter they just shot down in front of them, bringing themselves down due to a canopy in their own prop.

Now that kind of thing would be interesting if modelled...

The explosion does damage you but the parts falling off do not.

The problem with that is IL-2's volatility when it comes to contact between objects. How often have you just touched a ground object with your wing and get thrown around just to smack the other wing into the same object, then tossed around and lose the tail too?

The problem with a mod like that is, that it would require a damage model that's at least equally complex to the one in Rise of Flight, where parts from the other airplane can actually bend your wings, rip out the bracing wires tear off your wings etc. depending on where it hits and how big the part is.

You could for instance fly into a small wooden rudder with your all metal wing of something big and powerful such as the P-47 and lose your wing as a consequence, or simply go *POP* when that same rudder hits your engine... You're looking at some pretty fundamental parts of the game to modify here, and I'm not sure it's within the scope of the rules of this forum if you're talking about altering stock damage models...
