If players could man AAA guns, flares would be very handy for indicating you're friendly when coming in to land.
Don't know if it's possible but maybe even get AI AAA at airfields to shoot anything in the sky after dark that doesn't either radio for clearance to land or fire flares in a specific combination. That could make things interesting.
The Ar 234 has a flare gun in the cockpit that would shoot out the window to signal for landings I believe.

I think a mod would be nice that the damaged aircraft land first. I lost to many mates in dgen campaigns, because the "healthy" aircraft don't let to land the wounded ones. In many case their engine just get wrong when they at the final stage of landing. They maybe could land in one piece, if the others let them.
Great thread. To add to the debate, surely landing a damaged a/c first is a bad idea - what if he then makes the runway"BLACK" (i.e. unfit for the remaining a/c to land?). At sea it's the damaged a/c that are last to land.
Now a barrier that could be activated by request via radio command (both on ship & end of runway).........there's a thought.
Liked the suggestion of friendly AAA firing on All returning a/c UNLESS landing permission was obtained.....oh, and a damaged radio mod and..............
