[WIP] Iraq Map

Here's a download link for a new map of part of Iraq. The idea for the map came from Cracken and the populating was done by Riptide.

The idea was to have a map for the events surrounding the failed Axis coup of 1941. But for a 1/1 scale map of Iraq the area was simply far too large. So this is for the southern part of the country, where a British-Indian force concentrated efforts around the city of Basra. We provided a number of airfields that are in excess of historical airfields. Normally there should have been one airfield in Basra, but one is a bit sparse for a map of this size and besides, in a flat desert country almost any road can double as a runway if need be.

We've also provided a number of oilfields, located as far as we could tell in more or less correct locations for the WWII years.

There are 2 actors files for this map. Instructions are included on how to change these. The main actors is a whopping 7.5 mb in size. This may be surprising because outside of the immediate vicinity of Basra, there is little to see in the way of objects, certainly not in any concentration. But deserts are huge and swallow things up. And to give some color contrast to the landscape, we decided to try lining the banks of the main rivers, Tigris and Euphrates, with random palm trees. The results look nice and don't interfere with frames rates either.

However for those with less powerful setups, we also provided an actors file without these palm trees along the river banks, size of 4 mb. Installation instructions are included and easy to do. It just involves editing one line in the load.ini file.

The mission editor can load the map but can't save the edited missins.. do I have some missing objects perhaps? what objects mod this map requires?

Those are from an experimental set of objects I tried using, to make multi-storied Egypt houses. I'll edit them out of the actors.static files and post the new ones in a while. Sorry about that. I was quite certain I had already done that with the actors, but maybe I missed a few ...

A bunch of offline campaigns could easily come to mind with that kind of map, as soon as I get the new HSFX but this time with the 4.10m patch, that is if this map is included in the new HSFX system after the 4.10m patch comes along.

It might not have to do with WW2 though, if you can see what I mean by that.... :wink:

Hmmm ... here's perhaps a quicker way of solving this, as editing the actors files is going to be a more long-drawn out process than i thought ...

Do let me know if this works out or not.

BUT FIRST: Make a backup of your static.ini ...

And then add these entries to your static ini. I don't think it matters much where exactly, though they do come under the section:
'Title Egypt Objects'
