ok i don't know what is better to use. right now it's on direct x.

exactly that way, and the FPS counter will appear in red text at top of screen. Close the console with Shift+TAB again.
To stop the counter, do the same thing, except enter:
fps STOP HIDE

Actually, on many older graphics cards, FPS can be higher with DirectX because there are fewer API extensions for the processer to handle. On the latest DirectX 11 graphics cards with NVIDIA, tessellation activated can make DirectX mode something to be considered because the NVIDIA tessellation utilizes the few DirectX advantages.
Generally, OpenGL is vastly superior, but here are exceptions.
