I understand you're trying to save money, but it sounds like you're just trying to justify buying this rig to yourself.
We've explained the pitfalls of purchasing this system, but if you're bound and determined to try and make a silk purse out of a sows ear, then so be it.

Good luck.

It's much worse to spend money on a system only to have to upgrade/replace it within 1-3 months....

Try this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/AMD-x4-965-Quad-Cor ... 7342wt_905
[Image: g_01_mb.jpg]

-AMD Phenom II X4 965 Quad Core Processor
-2GB DDR3 Gaming Ram
-Radeon HD 4350 512MB Gaming Graphics Card
-8-channel High Definition Audio
-Gigabit Fast Network Ethernet (GLAN)
-500B 7200Rpm 16MB Hard Drive
-24X DVDRW Burner Drive
-Card Reader , 6 x USB 2.0
$530.99

I have a system pretty much like this for my son. His is an Nvidia 8800 Ultra instead of ATI, buth everything else is pretty much the same.
This system will allow you to run up to the AMD x6 Core (AM3 Socket).
The case is AWESOME. Has fold out/down panels on both sides for easy maintenance and assembly. Only flaw is the hard drives are mounted in-line with the board so space for SLI is limited.

MB appears to be decent for a system of this price. Most likely a Gigabyte or Asus mid range board. Board is set up for Cross Fire. (You can use a single Nvidia card but no SLI).
Ram is DDR3 but you may want to add 2 additional gb to bring it up to 4gb.

Video card is mid range but plenty for Il-2. May not be enough for BoB:SoW without some sacrifice to image quality.

System doesn't come with an O/S, but you can get Win7 Ultimate fairly cheap now. If you go to some place like Fry's, buy your memory from them and get an OEM copy of the O/S at the same time, you'll save a bundle.

They also have an AMD x3 tri core version for $404.

You'll need to add a monitor, so something like:

- an ASUS VW193DR Black 19" for $109 (1440x900)
NewEgg link

- an Acer G215HAbd-1 Black 21.5" for $119 (1920x1080)
NewEgg link

Another optional system for $550.01 after rebate:

Intel Core i3-540 Clarkdale 3.06GHz 4MB L3 Cache
ASUS P7H55-M LX
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1333
COOLER MASTER HAF 912
COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus 700W
G.SKILL Sniper Gaming Series 2.5" 60GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (Model:FM-25S2S-60GBSR)
EVGA GeForce GTS 450 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5

NewEgg link

Will need a DVD drive and eventually a 320GB hard disk, but those are $17-$18 and under $45 respectively.

that's ok, all i need to know if the graphics card has a HDMI slot so i can use it on my vizio TV, even if not i can still use the VGA slot, VGA is still pretty good on TV and i already have the stuff for sound to be able to be played through TV

It should get you 60+ fps with some tweaking (ATI) and look damm good doing it.
If nothing else, you have an excellent baseline to build on. This system can be upgraded whereas the one you were looking at is pretty much at the end of it's life cycle.

Radpig,

I think that you got very good suggestions in this thread.

Please let me say a couple things. I feel that you will change your mind about Storm of War - once it is released, you see the great things in it, and feel all the excitement about it building quickly in the communities.

As for not asking your parents for too much: I would ask for better now and spare them later on other issues in the future. I used to negotiate with my parents like this on something that I really wanted and it almost always worked. If I were a teenager now, then having a good DirectX 11 compatible system would only be topped by an automobile in things that I would want. Since you have a few years before you drive, I would negotiate with your parents if I were you.

My prediction, having been a teenager at one time myself and watching my friends, is that you will want to try Storm of War, Canvas Knights, Rise of Flight, or some other games and simulations within the next couple years.

Remember a wise concept: If you never try, then you will never be sure if it was even possible. Work toward the goal and you can expect to succeed.

We will support you with your new system and you know that any questions will be answered.

Personally I'd go with the Ebay one after doing some research to ensure that they are legit and don't have any complaints against them.
