For All Users: Getting your game Running with HSFX 4.1

Hello Guys, thanks for a nice welcome. Just wanted to say I managed to download HFSX 4.0 & 4.1 patch with no problems - and have spent the last week enjoying the mod thoroughly!

A few comments about downloading HSFX through torrents:

1. Please dont take this as anything other than helpful, constructive critisism but it might be a good thing to update the installation guide taking into account the REAL sizes of the downloads (HSFX_Version_4.EXE and others are listed as 500MB- when they're actually 488MB). Can make you doubt you've got the real thing - especially if you're a little suspect about torrents in general - like a few posters here.

2. Well - I did get the real thing - and very speedily too. I've a broadband "dongle" connection, which is mercurial at the best of times - but due to dedicated torrent seeding the download was very fast (for my connection at least!). Been on cloud 9 since!

Mega big thank you to ALL involved with this epic mod. Big Grin

To have things cleared up for me before I install, I have a few questions... :???: Soory if I sound noobish, I haven't played IL-2 in over 6 months Sad

1.) Does this mod (HSFX) include all, or most of the original mod planes from the original AAA 'IL2 Planes DOWNLOAD' section? Because I have been lusting for the Beaufighter Mk. X and the Spitfire XIV for around a year now.

2.) Does it include the sound and graphical effect mods? I suspect it does. Which graphics addon is it, and could y'all tell me which effects it modifies?

3.) I'm really excited to download this. Seeing all the hard work the modders have put into it, I've always wanted to be part of the experience. Whoever answers me, Thank you. Cheers

1. Yes (and then some).

2. Yes. ( I believe it's using HG&P effects but has others that you can run/swap).

All mods are now activated via JSGME unless otherwise stated. Makes for painless mod swaps.

Hi,

I just noticed that this post is a few weeks old. Did you ever fix the issue that you posted here?

I apologize that I somehow missed this one.

I tried downloading the 4.09m patch, bu then the provided link redirected me to a page FULL of other links. I clicked on the first one (mission4today), but then the website told me I had to be a registered member of the site in order to download. I then went through the trouble of creating an account there to download it, clicked on the download button, but then It referred me to a list of about 6 other download links. I clicked on the first one which referred me to yet ANOTHER FREAKING FORUM that required me to be a registered member to download as well. By that time I was pulling my hair out, screaming to myself
"WHY ISN'T THERE A SIMPLE, STRAIGHTFORWARD DOWNLOAD LINK!? WHY MUST THIS BE SO COMPLICATED?!"
After my bout of frustration, I returned to the AAS forum to post this message and to ask a question:
Could someone just give me a simple, direct link for the 4.09m patch, please?
Thank you. Forgive me for my clearly expressed anger.

Hi,

Here is the link for 4.09m patch:

Holy CRAP! Confusedhock: Even when simplified and put into a nice little list there, the whole darn process is so long! Every one of those sites has its own set of options and links that lead to more links thay open up even more links.

To check on my progress, I downloaded 4.08m, 4.09m and uTorrent. Do I so far have a good base on which to proceed with installment of any of the mentioned modpacks?

Yes you have a good bace to start Modding. But on thing I would recommend is 4.09M Skins - http://mission4today.com/index.php?name ... ls&id=3761

But yeah, your all ready.

Hi, pal

If you have the DVD version of IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 and clean (not corrupt files) of the patches, then yes indeed: You can proceed with a 4.09m compatible mod pack of your choice.

KEEP SEPARATE COPIES OF THE INDIVIDUAL PATCHES IN CASE SOMETHING GOES AMISS! Smile

Thanks again, Fireskull. Cheers
Yesterday, I didn't feel like playing TF2 for 3 hours straight like I normally do, so I took a spin in a P-38 and P-51 in the unmodded IL-2 QMB, and it was awesome. I love both those planes. I thought to myself
"Imagine flying these babes with the HSFX new effects mod. Too bad you don't have admin privileges."

Another thing: I binded the zoom in/out setting to two of the buttons on my joystick and flew a few single missions. Could this possibly corrupt the 'fresh install' needed to begin modding?

Joystick buttons assignments should have no effect at all, don't worry about that. If you have version 4.09m running OK and you have the space on your hard drive, do yourself a favor and copy the whole thing and save it some where else, or burn it to a DVD- then you won't need to go through the whole "install/download/patch" dance next time something goes wrong.
You can have as many installs of Il2 on your PC as you want, you just have to keep track of which is which- renaming each version is a good idea.
You should be able to set the game's .exe by right clicking on it and selecting "run as administrator" if it's asking for admin rights. Also make sure you install or move you install to somewhere other than "Program Files", so Windows doesn't interfere with the game.

I run on Windows 7 with multiple user accounts; I'll need parental permission and the Admin password to install things. I haven't left the nest yet, BTW
