Ship Skinning
#1

I have noticed a lot of people have made custom ship paint schemes. I personally would like to do that but I do not know how to. Could someone please explain to me how to do this. The only program I have for this is Paint not Gimp. I am wanting to make a bit more historically accurate paint schemes.

I think this should be in Il2 Skins, Missions & Campaign DISCUSSION. ------ Resolved, Cheers Deutschmark

GIMP is the way to go if you want to do any kind of skinning - http://www.gimp.org/

Sorry but I don't know how to skin ships, you could ask F6 (Fsix) as he has skinned some tanks, he would be your best bet.

Why is GIMP so important? I have made quite successful skins with paint. :-? :-? I can send you one for a Lerche that I created.

well, actually GIMP is great because you can manage layers which can make skinning a whole lots easier and templates are available so that it shows like it's been weathered also you can paint without worrying about painting over bolts, lines and other details. another great thing are it's features and effects you are able to select certain areas that you want painted, just take a look at my MiG-17 & B-25 skin job, these are some of the first i actually took my time with, trust me beats Paint everytime

i've done it once, all you do is copy void or whatever skin and open it up, but you have to avoid bolts and lines

Look here - viewtopic.php?f=94&t=30887 Gimp give you so much more choice with texture and so on. If you look a my tutorial you'll see why GIMP is important for skinners.

The main problem I have is finding where the ship skin files are. I have seen talk of TGA and TGB so I am wondering where are those files. I am presently running a stock IL-2 1946 with one attempt at mods, the aircraft carrier catapult. I did not have I proper file opener so I could not open it. I use to use some sort of Adobe program I believe for my skinning before paint but I can no longer find the program. :?: :?: :?: Any tips for helping? Oh and how did you get the screenshots? I have tried a video capture before but it failed epicly. Sad Sad

Or even smaller SAS mod activator.

yeah, but with going through the trouble downloading SAS i guess you might as well go with HSFX, that's just me though

Please do not get off topic here. I downloaded that mod a couple years back and could not open it since I did not have a rar opener. Please tell me where I can find these files. I just want to learn that and that is it. I presently while online partake in racing or historical missions unmodded. I right now working on a battle of britian mission for the server.
:| Thanks.
