Ive just had a look at this and it is indeed only accepting 512 X 512, also messed about with the file compression ie bright and indexed etc..no joy 
seems you will either draw as 512 only or as a 1024 then reduce finally to 512..the void file size is only 256 kb not 1.0 mb as usual default skins are!
