I think this would be a rather difficult modding, especially as it would have to consider a multitude of parameters.
The approach via the craters is not bad, but those craters of impacts of bombs/crashed planes are all the same and very generic. This doesn't seem too bad as usually bombs smash from high altitude and planes too.
But if you wanted to do the effort for the scratchmarks-thing, you would have IL2 to handle dynamic textures to make it look at least somewhat decent. You would have to take into account the impact speed, angle, the distance the plane scratches over the ground and then have scratch-textures stretched or multiplied by the right factor to fill this distance. IL2 is absolutely poor in handling such things, just the word "dynamic" makes il2fb.exe shiver... :wink:
I think the main modders are currently attending to more priorized objectives as adding new planes etc. . There the guys at least know how to handle the stuff (at least a bit, seems there are some severe problems with the new spit )
