That would work and be quite a bit more realistic than using a mouse and cursor. I doubt it is doable in Il2, but perhaps in future sims. The alternative to a clickable cockpit, but still retaining the feel of being in a cockpit would be to use custom made control panels. I've read some articles on building them, but simply never built one, I just rely on the stick and keyboard.

As for this thread becoming a flame fest, I don't see it. A question was asked and answers were given along with the reasoning behind the answer.
