Actually, most Japanese Army aircraft had this capability, in fact you'll find many, many aircraft do due to dual drop tanks.....In kind some bomb bay type aircraft like the B25 did....Though I'm not sure if that was an aircraft feature or a field mod.
To be realistic on aircraft utilizing wing pylons however, remember that the drop should be from the side opposite that which counters engine torque first (though in a mod you would NOT alter the torque or weight change to the FM of any aircraft letting it work as normal making the shift only when empty).
