It doesn't seem to overlap (at least when I tried it) It seems that the program re-starts the impact sound every time your hit...you kind of have to try it in-game to hear how the "tail sound" works.
But I will give things a think...thanks for the feedback.

Strictly speaking the interior of the airplane is too small to produce an echo...instead I added a very tight "bright" reverb to simulate the metal interior of the "aluminum can" and give it some depth. I also added some bass around 200Hz to give the impact some "oomph". The "tail sound" is the sound of damage...
