Lost engine sounds - where'd they go?
#3

This is an ongoing problem for me also, I am having it with the Corsair's, F4F's and F6F's.

I have a fix that works for me but I find that often it only lasts for one or two sessions (reboots) and then I have to repeat the fix again.

My solution:
1) Identify all the aircraft engine sounds that are persistent with sound quality and have never failed to deliver sound. Choose anyone of these as a replacement for the aircraft engine sounds that persistently fail for you.

2) Identify each *.prs file that represents each aircraft's engine sound both for the ones that fail and also for the ones that work well and you would like to use as a replacements. For example the "motor.DB-700_Series.prs" file represents the Bf 109 series. These files can be found in the IL-2 directory similar to "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 Mod\Files\presets\sounds\".

3) Replace the failing engine sounds *.prs file with any one of the ones that are persistent with quality. An example would be, if the IL-2 (series aircraft) engine sounds persistently fail and you choose to replace them with the Bf 109 sounds then this would be the approach:

NOTE: Before anything else, always, always backup the files you will be working with so that if the dirt hits the fan you can revert back to the original files

Open the "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 Mod\Files\presets\sounds\motor.DB-700_Series.prs" file and then "Save As" to "motor.AM_Series.prs" (this is the *.prs file that controls the sound for the IL-2 aircraft series). This effectively tells the IL-2 program to use the Bf 109 sound files for the IL-2 Sturmovik series aircraft.

4) Launch the IL-2 game and play. If you have followed these steps correctly, the IL-2 aircraft series aircraft will now be using the Bf 109 engine sounds.

I hope this helps rather than to confuse and if anyone needs a little more explanation with this I will do my best to help if I can.

I know this is an ongoing problem for a few of us and this is the best solution I have found to this point.

Cheers, CrazySchmidt. Smile
