I made a Realistic Smoke MOD.
but this MOD's point is No FPS killer even at crash site.
You won't find any black smoke blob.

without Fly! , non of that fire would be possible
I will try that improvement when I get back home .
Black blob mushroom was not an issue to remove completely ,
problem was that we would lost long black smoke trail behing planes .
Majority back then wanted longer trail behind planes
