Definitely "cut" and "paste" your current "MODS" and "Files" folders into a backup location. I use a "yyymmdd" folder naming convention for my backups so I know when the backup was set. I recommend also using an external HD since each backup is roughly 4GB in size. Once you have your backup, you can simply cut and paste into your il2 game directory as needed.

Currently, I have two backups. One for my current 1.0 + additional MODs, and one for UI1.1. By swapping the Files and MOD folder, I can easily interchange the two.

Regarding the Cannot Load error, perhaps you are missing a recommended campaign MOD, or have it misconfigured.
