How to manage MODS in IL-2 1946?
#3

mavyalex, decide which mods you seldom or never will use and remove them.
(If you play online in what some consider "full real" servers forget all of this, you will become incompatible.)

You can remove several new slot planes by running their uninstall program but if you try the minus sign in front of them, the game crashes.

The many new cockpits, while really good, are very large files, not flying the plane, move the cockpits out of the game.

I have 1.93 gigs of cockpits in a backup folder, one of those, the Cockpits_BF_ 109_Mod is 614 MB, don't fly 109s, take it out.

Skins and Missions can become large files too, over time. If you have been collecting skins and missions, you may be able to store some of them out of the game to decrease your load time.

Unfortunately, choosing and testing are necessary evils if you want to safely reduce your load time. You need to run the game after you remove something to make sure it still loads properly.

One thing I have found out is that, no matter how much stuff I take out, the first loadup of the day takes about 60 to 70 seconds but after that it takes about 30 seconds.
(That is down from 120 seconds before I took a hatchet to the UI 1.1 install.

I am sure load times vary greately depending on you computer power too, I have what is now a low, mid range machine.

There is no quick, easy way to reduce the load so be careful.
